ASC Men’s Soccer All-Conference
Selections
RICHARDSON,
TEXAS
– The American Southwest Conference wrapped-up the 2003 men’s soccer season with
announcement of the All-Conference teams as selected by the conference head
coaches.
LeTourneau
University
defender Aaron Prosser (Elverson,
PA/Twin
Valley
HS) was
voted East Defensive Freshman of the Year.
The YellowJackets placed three players on the All-East Division
teams. Sophomore midfielder Sean Busha (Longview/Pine Tree HS) was
named to the first team. Busha led
the team with eight goals and three assists. He scored three game-winning goals on
the season.
Senior defender Ben Barlow
(Saginaw,
MI/Heritage
HS)
and sophomore goalkeeper Ian Todd
(Longview/Longview HS) were named East Division Honorable Mention. Barlow provided a strong presence on the
defensive end and was able to provide a scoring punch with a goal and three
assists. Todd started 17 of 18
games in goal and tallied a 2.21 goals against average. He was named ASC East Division Defensive
Player of the Week for the final week of the season when he assisted on a goal
in the team’s 2-1 victory over Mississippi
College.
Prosser had an outstanding year for the YellowJackets. He started 17 games as a true freshman
and immediately made an impact upon the program. He is known for his aggressive style of
play.
ASC East Division champion University of Texas at Tyler placed three
players on both the All-Conference and East Division First Team and claimed
three division individual awards. Forward Daniel Browning was voted East
Offensive Player of the Year, defender Apollo Turnbow selected East
Defensive Player of the Year, and head coach Kenny Jones named East Coach of
the Year. Austin
College
forward Stephen Carpenter
was named East Offensive Freshman of the
Year.
McMurry
University,
ASC West Division champion, placed four players on the All-Conference team and
seven players on the West Division First-Team. Forward Rudy Irias was voted West
Offensive Player of the Year and goalkeeper Bret Erdmann named West
Defensive Player of the Year. McMurry head coach Steve Allan was chosen West
Coach of the Year. Hardin-Simmons forward David Salas was named West
Offensive Freshman of the Year. Texas Lutheran defender Eric Babcock and Mary
Hardin-Baylor defender Kyle Kalin
were voted co-West Defensive Freshman of the
Year.
