LETU GOLF TAKES 5TH AT NCAA
REGIONAL
ROUND ROCK,
TEXAS
– The LeTourneau University men’s golf
team tied for fifth place in the NCAA West Regional held at the Teravista Golf
Club on Monday. Twelve teams
competed for the championship over 36-holes on the par-72, 6961-yard and par-72,
7039-yard courses.
The YellowJackets struggled in the opening round shooting a 317 and found
themselves in 10th place.
In the second round, the team shot a sizzling 296, the best round of any
team in the tourney. Freshman
Doug Moorehead (Hamilton,
OH/Hamilton
HS)
led the turn-around when he improved nine strokes and shot a tournament best
1-under par, 71. Moorehead finished
in a tie for 11th place with a score of
151.
Freshman Christian Sarran (Longview/Spring Hill HS) continued his
steady play this spring with rounds of 78 and 76. He finished in a tie for 19th
place. Fellow freshmen Adam
Harding (Boca
Raton,
FL/Spanish
River
HS)
and Nate McCrary (Longview/Spring Hill HS) carded 74 and 75, respectively
in the second round.
The top five teams were: Texas Lutheran (298-298=596),
La
Verne
(305-297=602), Hardin-Simmons (304-302=606), California Lutheran (310-300=610),
LeTourneau (317-296=613) and Mary Hardin-Baylor
(315-298=613).
The individual regional champion was Hardin-Simmons’ Chris Phillips who
shot a 1-under par 143 for the tourney.
