MEN’S GOLF WINS SCHREINER INVITE
KERRVILLE, TEXAS – The LeTourneau University men’s golf team went low on
Monday and followed it up with a solid second day to win the Schreiner
University Invitational by 10 strokes over their nearest
competitor.
The YellowJackets won their first invitational of the season with a
two-day score of 304-311=615. Six
full squads were represented at the invitational; UT-Dallas (625), Schreiner
(655), Dallas Baptist (671), TAMIU (680) and College of the Southwest
(701).
Head coach Andy Woodring’s squad placed all five of its golfers in the
top 10 places. Freshman Christian Sarran (Longview/Spring Hill
HS) finished in second place and had the low round of the tourney with a 71
on the first day. He shot a 77 on
the second day to finish two strokes behind first place. The 71 was his best collegiate round in
tournament play.
The other YellowJackets scoring for the team were freshman Doug Moorehead
(Hamilton, OH/Hamilton HS) in fifth place, 80-75=155, freshman
Nate McCrary (Longview/Spring Hill
HS) in sixth place, 79-77=156, junior Hunter Cloud (Gladewater/Gladewater HS)
in eighth place, 76-82=158, and freshman Adam Harding
(Boca Raton, FL/Spanish
River HS) in 10th place,
78-82=160.
According to GolfStat.com, LETU has the top freshman class in NCAA
Division III and the team was ranked 31st in the nation heading into
the tournament.
The team travels to Pine Mountain, GA on Sunday for the Callaway Gardens
Invitational.
