LETU GOLF PLACES SIXTH
TEMPLE, TEXAS – The LeTourneau University men’s golf team took sixth
place at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Spring Invitational at the
Wildflower Country Club on Monday and Tuesday, shooting a two-day total of
308-319=627.
Freshman Doug Moorehead
(Hamilton, OH/Hamilton
HS) led
the team with a strong 14th place finish. Moorehead shot 75 and 79 on the par-72,
6,944 yard course. Junior Josh Rutland (Gladewater/Sabine HS)
finished in 19th place with rounds of 79 and 77. Freshmen Christian Sarran (Longview/Spring Hill
HS) and Adam Harding
(Boca
Raton, FL/Spanish
River HS) shot 157 and 160 to
finish 27th and 32nd,
respectively.
The University of
Mary
Hardin-Baylor men’s golf team overcame
heavy rains late in the round and the Crusaders coasted to a 19-stroke victory
at the UMHB Spring Invitational on Tuesday. UMHB fired a 302 to go with
yesterday’s 291 for a 593 total and the win. The Crusaders had the tournament’s
two low rounds. Trinity
University shot 304-308=612 to take
second place and Texas
Lutheran
University finished third with a
307-311=618. McMurry
University claimed fourth place with
a 317-306=623 and Southwestern
University rounded out the top five
with a 317-307=624 and fifth place. Hardin-Simmons (310-321) and College of
the Southwest (315-316) tied for seventh place with 631 totals.
Louisiana
College finished ninth with a
316-322=638, UT-Tyler was 10th at 310-331=641, UT-Dallas finished
11th with a 322-331=653, Schreiner
University was 12th with
a 334-332=666 and Concordia
University was 13th with
a 349-365=714 total. The two-day, 36-hole tournament was played on a par-72,
6,944-yard layout at Wildflower Country Club in
Temple.
Trinity University’s Simon Thompson was the individual
title with an even-par 144 after shooting 73-71. UMHB’s Riley Baumann took
second with a 72-74=146 and UMHB’s Bradley Bean (73-74) tied Texas Lutheran’s
Michael Faterkowski (72-75) for third place with 147’s.
McMurry University’s Rode McElreath round out the top
five with a 74-75=149.
The
YellowJackets will travel to Kerrville, TX for the Schreiner University
Invitational on March 7-9.
