LETU Men Win CC Invite

LONGVIEW, TEXAS – LeTourneau University hosted the 5^th Annual Dr. Ken Roden Cross Country Invitational on Saturday morning in the rain and the men’s team won by one point.

The YellowJackets placed runners in sixth, seventh, 10^th, 13^th and 22^nd for a total team score of 58 points.  The University of Dallas finished with 59 points giving the YellowJackets a slim margin of victory.  UT Dallas (76), Dallas Baptist (89), UT Tyler (96) and East Texas Baptist (108) followed the two teams in the standings.

Dallas Baptist boasted the top two runners in the field.  Cory Welch won the 8K race in a time of 28:37 and was followed by teammate Daniel Kingsley, who finished in a time of 29:08. 

The YellowJackets were led by Nate Singer (Wilmington, DE/Wilmington Christian), 30:43, and Chip Glass (Longview/Home School), 31:07.

Women

The women’s invitational was won by UT Dallas with a score of 30 points.  East Texas Baptist, 43 points, and University of Dallas, 48 points, finished a close second and third behind the Lady Comets.

Once again, Dallas Baptist featured the top two runners in the race.  Katie Simpson won the 6K event in a time of 24:31.  Her teammate, Chancie Larson finished in second place in a time of 25:04.  LadyJacket runner Heidi Sanders (Sugar Land/Fort Bend Austin HS) finished in third place in a time of 25:47.

Despite the rain, the invitational was a success with a strong turnout from many teams.
