LeTourneau
University
kinesiology professor Anita Fennell has been named the new volleyball and
tennis coach at LeTourneau
University.
Fennell coached volleyball for 16 years at the high
school level, including nine seasons in Texas Class 5A. Her teams won numerous district,
bi-district and area championships.
Twice she guided her volleyball teams to regional final appearances
and advanced to the state semi-finals once. She is an eight-time district
coach of the year and was on the Board of Directors for the Texas Girls
Coaches Association for four years.
Many of her former players earned college
scholarships.
“Anita Fennell has had success everywhere she has
coached and the fact that she has been teaching at LeTourneau for a
semester makes her a great fit with the students and athletic
department. She has a heart
for Jesus Christ and will provide great guidance to her teams on and off
the court. She has the unique
ability to balance the intensity to excel and compassion for the
student-athlete,” said Vice President of Student Affairs Doug
Wilcoxson.
Fennell says she is excited about the new
opportunity to coach on the collegiate level.
“I
feel very blessed to have the opportunity to join the
LeTourneau
University
family and am excited and anxious to meet with all volleyball and tennis
players,” says Fennell. “We have the vision to become national
champions in both sports and have the will to see that vision come to
pass. Our returning athletes will lead the way for many champions to
follow.”
