Five Earn East Division Honors for LETU
Volleyball
RICHARDSON, TEXAS – The American Southwest Conference announced its 2003
Volleyball All-Conference and All-Division teams Wednesday and LeTourneau
University placed five members of its team on the selected
squads.
LadyJacket freshman Jennifer
McCool (Gilmer/Harmony HS) earned first team All-East Division honors at the
middle blocker position. McCool led
the team in attack percentage (.296) and blocks per game (0.91) and was second
on the team with 2.57 kills per game.
Fellow freshman Jodi Jones
(Gilmer/Harmony HS) was tabbed as a second team All-Division outside
hitter. Jones led the team with
2.92 kills per game and had the second best attack percentage (.160) on the
team.
Three LadyJackets earned honorable mention All-East Division honors. Juniors Cari Anson (Lindale/Lindale HS) and Casey Culver (El Paso/Jesus Chapel) and
freshman Juliana Metcalf (Gilmer/Harmony
HS) were all named to the team for the first time. Anson led the LadyJackets with 708
assists and was named ASC-East Division Setter of the Week for September
22. Culver was a steadying
influence at the net all season long for LETU. She led the team with 84 blocks and
tallied 1.45 kills per game.
Metcalf played most of the season as the libero leading the team with
2.60 digs per game and managed to tally 121 assists when she was forced into
action as the setter. She earned
ASC-East Division Defensive Specialist of the Week for September 15.
East
Texas
Baptist
University,
which advances to the NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship, placed setter
Allison
Castillo
and
outside hitter Arden
Tunnell on
the All-Conference team. ASC East Division champion and conference tournament
runner-up Austin
College
was represented on the all-conference team by outside hitter Rebecca
Harpham.
ASC West Division champion Texas
Lutheran
University
placed three players on the all-conference list: outside hitter Barbara
Daughety,
middle blocker Tracy
Heathcock
and
setter Jacqueline
Horstmann.
Completing the ASC All-Conference Volleyball team are middle blocker
Lyndsay
Llewellyn of
West Division runner-up McMurry
University
and middle blocker/hitter Kim
Alcorn
of
Sul
Ross
State
University.
Individual award winners were also selected in each division. The East
Division coaches selected ETBU’s Castillo
as
Most Valuable Player. Austin
College
outside hitter Rebecca
Harpham was
voted Newcomer of the Year and AC coach Ed
Garza Coach
of the Year.
West Division coaches selected Texas Lutheran's Heathcock
as
Most Valuable Player. Schreiner
University
setter Emiliana
Patlan was
named Newcomer of the Year and TLU coach Brandi
Bradley Coach
of the Year.
