LETU
Soccer Defeats UT Tyler,
3-2
LONGVIEW, TEXAS – Senior captain Stevi Peace (Longview/Jakarta
International) led the LeTourneau University women’s soccer team to a 3-2
victory over UT Tyler at the University Soccer Complex on Tuesday night, by
scoring the game winning goal with less than four minutes to
play.
Peace
scored two goals on the night to give her a team leading four on the
season. The first goal came
1:50
into play when she took a long pass from T.C. Willis (Carrollton/R.L. Turner HS)
and outraced the Patriot defenders before putting the ball past the
goalkeeper.
The Patriots (1-3, 0-2) scored two quick goals midway
through the first half to take the lead.
Patricia Slate scored both goals for the Patriots. The first one came at the 27:39 mark off
a corner kick from Leigh Garner and the second one came unassisted at the 30:56
mark.
The LadyJackets (2-1, 1-0) tied the game at two apiece
one minute later when Li Jett
(Kilgore/Home School) raced free and scored on a pass from Willis at the
32:20 mark. After Jett’s score the
game settled down with neither team getting an
advantage.
The
Patriots peppered the LeTourneau goal with 32 shots on night, but could not get
one by LadyJacket keeper Julie Kohn
(Cuyahoga
Falls,
OH/Cuyahoga
Falls
HS)
in the second half.
Peace saved her heroics for late in the game. With just under four minutes to play,
Peace took possession of the ball and made three separate moves at full speed to
beat three defenders before knocking the ball past the goalkeeper. It was her 36th goal of her
career, a LeTourneau record.
The
LadyJackets travel to ASC-East Division rival
Mississippi
College
on Friday afternoon in the first game of a women-men’s
doubleheader.
