Women’s Soccer Opens with 2-0 Win at McMurry

ABILENE, TEXAS -- LeTourneau University women’s soccer opened the season with an exciting 2-0 shutout win at American Southwest Conference rival McMurry University on Saturday afternoon.

The LadyJackets (1-0) played a strong game defensively and took advantage of a few scoring opportunities in the second half.  Freshman goalkeeper Julie Kohn (Cuyahoga Falls, OH/Cuyahoga Falls HS) was superb in goal, registering four saves and earning the shutout win in her first career start.

After an even first half of play, the Lady Jackets dominated McMurry in the second half.  Senior forward Stevi Peace (Longview/Jakarta International) found the back of the net twice to raise her career total to 34.

Peace’s first goal came on a pass from junior midfielder Li Jett (Kilgore/Home school) at the 55:36 mark in the game.  Late in the second half, Peace put the game away when freshman Becci Vogel (Brooklyn Park, MN/West Lutheran HS) set her up with a perfect scoring chance at the 82:42 mark in the game.

The Indians (0-1) were limited on offense to only six shots during the whole game.  The LadyJacket defense was led by junior 2002 ASC East Division all-conference defender Cynthia Garcia (El Paso/Socorro HS).

The LadyJackets travel on the road to Marshall, Texas where Millsaps College will be waiting to play a neutral site, non-conference game on Friday, September 6.
