LETU Women’s Soccer Drops Ozarks,
4-1
LONGVIEW, TEXAS – Junior forward Li Jett (Kilgore/Home School) had a
career day with two goals and an assist for the LeTourneau University women’s
soccer team against American Southwest Conference East Division rival University
of the Ozarks, in a 4-1 win on Saturday afternoon.
The LadyJackets (4-4-1,
3-3-1)
were outshot 18 to 11, but the team made the shots count. Jett scored the first goal
16:22
into the game when she headed a crossing pass from Erica Crim (Henderson/Henderson HS)
past the Lady Eagle goalkeeper.
Eight minutes later, T.C. Willis
(Carrollton/R.L. Turner HS) made a nice move and blasted a shot past the
defenders into the back of the net to give the team a 2-0 lead halfway through
the first half.
The Lady Eagles (3-7, 1-6) cut the lead in half with four minutes
remaining in the first half. Katie
Lien took a pass from Lindy Swatzell and was able to put it past a diving Julie Kohn
(Cuyahoga
Falls,
OH/Cuyahoga
Falls
HS)
of LeTourneau.
The LadyJackets came right back and scored 53 seconds later when Jett
bounced a ball out to Stevi Peace
(Longview/Jakarta International).
Peace took the pass and floated her shot over everybody into the net to
put the LadyJackets up, 3-1, heading into the half.
The final score of the contest came with five minutes to play. Peace lifted a corner kick in front of
the Lady Eagle goal and Erica Rumer
(Lima,
OH/Elida
HS)
headed it to Jett, who headed the ball into the goal for her second score of the
game and third of the season.
The LadyJackets took great advantage of every opportunity given
them. They now possess a .500
record and are showing signs of possibly contending for an ASC playoff
spot. The team is off until Friday,
when they will travel to Dallas
to play UT Dallas in a conference match.
