LETU Women’s Soccer Ties Austin,
1-1
LONGVIEW, TEXAS – Stevi Peace
(Longview/Jakarta International) tied up the game with less than seven
minutes remaining to give LeTourneau University women’s soccer a tie against
visiting American Southwest Conference East Division rival Austin College on
Friday night, 1-1.
The LadyJackets (3-4-1,
2-3-1)
trailed most of the game before Peace pushed a pass from Li Jett (Kilgore/Home School) past
Austin
College
(3-7-1,
2-3-1)
goalkeeper Alyssa Condon with 6:54
remaining in regulation. The goal
was Peace’s team-leading seventh on the season and gives her 39 for her career,
a LeTourneau record.
The Kangaroos scored 18 minutes into the game when Mary Carrier headed in
a corner kick from Sarah Arnold.
Austin
College
tried 15 corner kicks on the evening, compared to just two for the
LadyJackets.
Goalkeeper Julie Kohn (Cuyahoga
Falls,
OH/Cuyahoga Falls HS) played a solid game in goal for the LadyJackets,
netting nine saves. She was helped
by Cynthia Garcia (El Paso/Socorro HS), Katie Reffitt
(Granville,
OH/Granville
Christian), Priscila Schoenborn (Milwaukee,
OR/Highland
HS) and Becci Vogel
(Brooklyn
Park,
MN/West
Lutheran HS) who all played strong defensively throughout the
contest.
This is the first time in LadyJacket history that they did not lose to
Austin
College. The team will play again Saturday
against another division rival, University of the Ozarks, at 1
p.m.
