LETU Women’s Soccer Splits Weekend
CLINTON,
MISS. – The LeTourneau
University
women’s soccer team traveled to American Southwest Conference East Division
rivals Mississippi
College
and Louisiana
College
on Friday and Saturday and came away with a split, losing to
Mississippi
2-0 and beating Louisiana
8-0.
The
LadyJackets (3-2, 2-1) played a defensive game against
Mississippi
College
and freshman goalkeeper Julie Kohn
(Cuyahoga
Falls,
OH/Cuyahoga
Falls,
HS)
played a superb game. Kohn was
credited with 17 saves and single-handedly kept the team in the game before the
Lady Chocs slipped two goals past her in the last 20 minutes of the
game.
Saturday’s
game against Louisiana
College
was a different story as the LadyJackets scored early and often. Freshman Erica Crim (Henderson/Henderson HS)
scored her first career goal at the 8:49
mark to start the barrage. Senior
co-captain T.C. Willis added the next two goals and Crim followed with her
second goal of the afternoon right before halftime to give the LadyJackets a 4-0
lead.
The
second half continued in the same manner with junior Rosalba Garcia (El Paso/Socorro HS)
scoring her first goal of the season on a pass from Li Jett (Kilgore/Home
School). Senior Stevi Peace (Longview/Jakarta
International) joined the scoring spree and put two goals past the
Louisiana
goalie in the final 25 minutes of play.
Newcomer Heather Andrews
(Bridgewater
Corners, VT/Mid Vermont
Christian)
added the eighth goal for the LadyJackets in her first game of action. Garcia and Willis both were credited
with assists in the second half.
The
LadyJackets thoroughly dominated the game from start to finish. They outshot
Louisiana
27-4 and Kohn was credited with her second shutout on the season. The LadyJackets travel to
Marshall
on Tuesday to take on conference rival East Texas Baptist at 3
p.m.
