LeTourneau School of Busines (Marketing)

What brought you to LETU?

Initially I learned about LeTourneau through a family friend that had graduated from the business school. I was looking for a small, private Christian university that had a strong business school in a technical environment. Prior to applying I was fortunate to have the opportunity to visit campus, meet with professors and see what life was like for a student at LETU. When I learned there were several other students that that also hailed from the PacNW (Pacific Northwest), I knew it was the school for me!

How would you describe your LETU Experience?

LeTourneau instantly became my home away from home, a place where I met some fantastic friends. It also let me grow as an individual, it was exactly what I needed.

Did any professors have a significant impact?

Yes! Dr. Ken Fairweather was a pillar. He challenged us to apply business strategy and theory to real life applications while maintaining the core of who we are as individuals and our faith.  It couldn’t have been an easy task to wrangle up a bunch of creative marketing students but he patiently groomed us for entering the workforce.

How has LETU prepared you for your career?

After LeTourneau I entered the high tech industry developing my career within tech companies in house marketing departments.  Having worked as a marketer I gained a solid foundation of what is needed for delivering marketing programs to customers and end users.  I then made the transition to the Information Technology space where I work in a highly technical environment supporting applications for marketing stakeholders. All of this has been a natural progression from the marketing fundamentals I learned at LeTourneau to the real life marketing projects I managed.

What advice would you give to LETU students?

Find a mentor. Start while you are still in school – it could be a contact where you have an internship, a LETU grad or a new contact you find on LinkedIn in an industry you are targeting. Someone who has walked the path before you and sees your willingness to learn and grow will always make time. This is something you will have to take the initiative on but worth your investment in time.  I have had several mentors during my career and the attributes I have learned from their coaching have helped shape my specific professional developments.
