Jazz Band MUSC1700, 1-hour credit
Mondays 7-9 PM Speer Chapel
Director: Mr. George Faber
Jazz is amazing! Jazz is a fusion of the musical traditions of Africa and Europe, and from its beginnings in New Orleans has blossomed into a rich culture of many styles, from Dixieland to Big Band to Bebop to Modern, and everything in between. Though first played only in clubs, its artistic excellence and complexity has moved it into almost every university as an academic discipline – and it is great fun to play.
INTRODUCING…Mr. George Faber, our new director. Mr. Faber opened for Al Jarreau recently and has played with many jazz notables over the years throughout Texas, a legend in East Texas area as an outstanding jazz keyboardist and band leader. As the recipient of many awards in East Texas, including Arts Educator of the Year and Lifetime Achievement in the Arts, Mr. Faber is excited to develop the jazz program here at LeTourneau. Plus…he intends to involve some of the great professional jazz musicians in our area as mentors to play alongside, an outstanding opportunity for the Jazz Band members.
