All-East Texas MVP Popelar commits to LeTourneau

– LeTourneau University women’s basketball coach Corey Thomaston
landed a gem Sunday when the YellowJackets announced the commitment of former All-East Texas MVP
and Pine Tree High School standout Alexis Popelar.
“We’re extremely excited to have Alexis apart of our LeTourneau
family,” Thomaston said. “She brings passion and knowledge of the game, as well as being a champion
and she will help us get from where we are, to where we want to go.”
Popelar, a native of Longview, Texas, was a part of the Pine Tree High
School team which went 34-3 during the 2005-06 season and won a state championship. Her accolades
during her senior season include being named First-Team All-District, Academic All-District,
Patriot Cougar Classic Tournament MVP, Azalea Orthopedics All-Star game high-point scorer and
All-East Texas MVP.
She averaged 17.3 points, six rebounds and two steals a game. Popelar
scored at least 20 points 10 times and scored in double figures...
