Vanwright's Debut Strong, but Jackets Fall to OBU

HENDERSON, AR – The LeTourneau University Men’s Basketball Team kicked off the 2008-09 season tonight as they hit the road to take on Ouachita Baptist University. The NCAA Division II Tigers fought back from an early deficit and held off the Jackets to earn the victory 83-70.

LeTourneau jumped out quickly in the game pushing the lead to 13-1 before OBU had a chance to adjust. However, the Tigers quickly turned things around with a 20-2 run of their own as they pushed to a 21-15 lead with eight minutes remaining in the half. The YellowJackets (0-1) got as close as four points twice during the final eight minutes as Ouachita took a 35-26 advantage into the half.

Joshua Davis (Longview, TX/Brookville) immediately got the Jackets back within six points as he nailed a 3 pointer to open the second half.
