Patriots Roll Over YellowJackets
LONGVIEW, TEXAS – The University of Texas at Tyler’s seventh ranked baseball team took both
ends of a double header against American Southwest Conference East Division rival LeTourneau
University on Saturday at Conrad Vernon Field, 10-0 and 19-0.
The Patriots (26-6, 9-2) received excellent power pitching and power hitting to easily take
the first two games of the three games series. Brett Holland twirled a seven inning shutout
in the opener as he held the YellowJackets (8-19-1, 2-9) to three hits while walking one and
striking out four. Jeremy Harding had the big blast in the game, a two-out grand slam in the
third inning that put the Patriots on top for good. Nick Clifton and Corey Farra each added
homers for the visitors. Ethan Cravalho (Honoka’a, HI/KHCS) had the lone extra base hit for
the Jackets with a double off the wall.
In the second game, UT-Tyler’s Blake Booher pitched a 1-hit shutout with Chris Tampke’s
(Nacogdoches/Nacogdoches HS) bunt single in the third inning as the only blemish. Booher
walked three and struck out 11 in the win. The Patriot offense had 20 hits and clubbed four
more homers in the nightcap. Farra hit his second homer of the day while Clay Baker, Michael
Caggiano and Kyle Braden each joined in the action. Jared Hood went 3-for-4 with two triples
in the game.
The Jackets and Patriots finish up their series on Sunday with one nine-inning game starting
at 2 o’clock.
