Prior Learning Credit Transfer

You may be able to earn college credit for what you already know! Prior learning or life experience credits can save you time and money and help you fulfill your undergraduate requirements for graduation. You should contact the Prior Learning Assessment Coordinator at CameronWinters@letu.edu or by calling 903-233-4378 for prior approval to ensure credits will apply.

 

American Council on Education (ACE)

ACE offers a college credit recommendation service that has evaluated trainings, professional courses, and examinations sponsored by professional and nonprofit organizations, labor unions, corporations and government. To see if any training courses that you have taken through an employer have been evaluated by ACE and recommended for college credit, click on the link below. If you have completed training that was recommended for college credit by ACE, you can order a transcript at the same link below. ACE charges a $20 initial registration fee that includes one complimentary transcript. Additional transcript orders are $15. Have your ACE transcript sent to LETU for evaluation (LETU does not charge to put the hours on the LETU transcript).

Advanced Placement Exams (AP)

AP Exams and LeTourneau Course Equivalencies

$91 + any testing center fees

AP Exams are offered in May for high school students who have completed the AP courses in various subjects. However, home schooled students and other students whose schools do not offer the AP exams may also take the exams. Students must ask for scores to be sent to LeTourneau. Scores are reported in July.

LeTourneau currently accepts some A/AS Cambridge International Exam papers.

The College-Level Examination Program® (CLEP) gives you the opportunity to receive college credit for what you already know by earning qualifying scores.

 

DSST Exams

DSST Exams and LeTourneau Course Equivalencies

$80 + testing center fees. LeTourneau's Test Code is 7911.

The DSST credit by exam program gives students the opportunity to receive college credit for life experience as a form of prior learning assessment. Recommended for credit by the American Council on Education, the exams are offered in diverse subject areas such as health, ethics, finance and technology.

 

International Baccalaureate (IB) Degree Credit

LeTourneau University will accept up to 24 hours of IB credit. In some cases a student may have to submit a course syllabus. Courses for the major are subject to departmental review. Official International Baccalaureate transcripts should be mailed directly from International Baccalaureate Office to the LeTourneau University Office of Enrollment Management for review. LeTourneau University will award up to 24 credit hours for IB courses. IB examinations, AP examinations, and college courses taken prior to or after enrolling at LeTourneau University may be duplicative. If so, credit will be awarded for only one course. Credit should be established prior to enrollment and must be established by the end of the student's first year at LeTourneau University.

National CCRS (formerly PONSI) 

National CCRS (formerly PONSI) reviews formal courses and educational programs sponsored by non-collegiate organizations and makes appropriate college-level credit recommendations for the courses and programs evaluated. Participating programs may charge a fee for a transcript, but LETU does not charge to put the hours on the LETU transcript.

Portfolio

Students may submit their portfolio after acceptance to the university. There is a $75 submission fee and a $50 transcription fee per credit awarded. There is a 30 hour credit limit.

May be taken at local colleges or through regionally accredited online schools (LSU, etc.). You must contact your academic advisor for approvals.
