Online Learning: Am I ready?

Five Habits of Highly Successful Distance Learners
Which is best for you – courses in a traditional classroom setting or distance learning via the Internet? While many LETU students successfully earn a degree online every year, your personality and habits may mean you're better suited for the classroom. As a busy professional, an online program can be a convenient option for continuing your education, especially for people who thrive on the independence and freedom offered by online education. Compare yourself to the following list of five habits of highly successful distance learners to determine whether online classes are right for you.

  • Motivation to work independently and stay on task
  • Ability to work at a pace necessary to complete assignments
  • Good reading comprehension skills and aptitude to consume information without direct guidance
Ability to filter distractions that might get in the way of learning
  • Capacity to use online communications – email or discussion boards – to explore new concepts with peers

Working With a Net
Perhaps you're a bit unsure about whether an online program is right for you. We recognize that learning styles differ, particularly with adult students who have varying education backgrounds and a wide range of years since they've last been in school. As one of the nation's pioneers in offering online courses and degree programs, our tools (such as Blackboard) support that initiative. In addition, our distance learning students get the support of instructors and fellow students who provide the guidance and feedback any student needs. Further, our Graduate and Professional Studies students, such as those pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, enjoy the freedom to attend classes at one of our six Texas campuses so they can combine online endeavors with traditional classroom experiences.

Learning Online – Am I Ready?
Aside from scholarly pursuits, you've probably used the Internet for business or other personal activities, from reading the news to checking your bank statement or paying bills. Life is so much easier using the Web! Still, many potential students are left wondering if they're ready for online learning. To get a sense of your probability for success, try this short questionnaire and read up on some important facts regarding distance learning.

What's Online Learning Really Like?
Continuing your education online has significant advantages for those who already lead a hectic life. However, it is a major commitment. Just as you wouldn't put your money into a new car without first taking a test drive, let LeTourneau do the same for you with an online learning test drive. Our Online Learning and Blackboard Tutorial is an interactive Flash demo that gives a great overview of the tools we put at your fingertips to help manage your education.

The Road to Success
Whether your goal is to fulfill a professional goal, personal goal or both, the decision to return to school means taking on new time and financial commitments. Does the online learning option appeal to you, but you're concerned about the perception of earning an online degree? We dispel the myth that online degrees aren't real degrees because all of our courses are accredited. Additionally, studies show that hiring managers, recruiters and corporations are realizing the worth of using an online program to fulfill your degree. Either through our on-campus or online programs, LETU helps map your road to success.
