Technical Requirements

Students and faculty using their own computers are expected to comply with the minimal hardware configurations recommended by our Information Technology department. To use MyLETU Courses, students and faculty must have access to the Internet, must use a Blackboard-approved web browser, and must use LeTourneau e-mail. In addition, specific plug-ins may be required to view posted material in some courses.

Web Browser Requirements

Internet Access:  To access MyLETU Courses, students and faculty may use any Internet service to establish a connection to the Internet.  However, they must use an approved web browser when working with MyLETU Courses (see link below).  When using an Internet service that provides a different web browser by default (such as AOL or Juno), MyLETU Courses users should first connect to the Internet, then close their service's browser and open an approved browser before logging in to MyLETU Courses.

Approved Web Browsers:  To see approved web browser/operating systems combinations, please view our approved web browser page.

Browser Configurations:  Review our recommended browser configurations to help ensure that your web browser will work appropriately with MyLETU Courses.

Requirements for Using Collaboration Tools

In order to use the Collaboration tools (for real-time chatting) inside MyLETU Courses, the Java plug-in (version 1.5 or higher) must be installed and enabled within your web browser.  The first time you try to Join a collaboration session within MyLETU Courses, if the Java plug-in is not on your machine, MyLETU Courses will attempt to download and install the plug-in at that time.  The plug-in may also be downloaded from LeTourneau's ftp site.

You may also need to make sure that your network's firewall is not restricting outgoing TCP connections on Port 7755, or HTTP connections on Port 8081.

Downloads/Plug-ins

Downloading and installing the following applications will allow MyLETU Courses users to view and use various file types that may be found within an online course. Some courses may require additional software as well (these will be indicated in the course syllabus).

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader -- Viewer for Adobe ".pdf" files, a common document format.
  • Microsoft Office Viewers -- Faculty and students who do not own Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel, or Visio can download and install these viewers, which will enable them to view files created with Microsoft Office products without having to own Microsoft Office.
  • QuickTime -- Quicktime is a common multimedia video and graphics viewing application. Quicktime makes it possible to view Quicktime ".mov" video files.
  • Media Players -- This folder contains RealPlayer, WinAmp, and Windows Meida Player, which are used to listen to various video and audio files over the Internet.
  • WinZip -- Winzip enables the user to view, extract, and compress files in a common zip file compression format.
