SCHEDULE:

The Kielhorn Endowed Chair of Welding and Materials Joining Engineering is a full-time tenure track position with teaching responsibilities during the fall and spring semesters, with the possibility of summer school teaching. Classes and other responsibilities are conducted primarily weekdays, but will include some evening classes and independent studies. Attendance will also be required at some evening and weekend events.

The School of Engineering and Engineering Technology at LeTourneau University invites applicants for an endowed, tenure-track faculty position in the Materials Joining and Welding Engineering area. The School offers EAC/ABET accredited degrees in engineering with concentrations in mechanical, electrical, materials joining, biomedical, civil and computer engineering and TAC/ABET accredited degrees in engineering technology with concentrations in mechanical, electrical and materials joining. The School of Engineering and Engineering Technology has over 500 students and 25 full-time faculty, with the Materials Joining program representing 10% of total enrollment. The hands-on education and research takes place in a recently renovated $1.2M and 11,000 ft2 lab named after Prof. Kielhorn, in whose name this position has been established.

Responsibilities include teaching and research in the Welding/Materials Joining Engineering and Engineering Technology concentrations, advising students and serving on various university committees. Teaching duties include undergraduate and graduate level teaching in Welding Metallurgy, Joining of Advanced Materials, Joining Processes, Engineering Design, and Non-Destructive Testing, as well as supervising Master’s students and research teams. Teaching responsibilities may include both on-site and on-line delivery methods.

QUALIFICATIONS:

LeTourneau University seeks a person with an enthusiastic and contagious Christian faith who is committed to teaching, research and leadership at a small, dynamic Christian University where the integration of faith and academic excellence is paramount. A Ph.D. in welding/materials engineering or a closely related field is required. 

 
Teaching, research, and industrial experience are desirable in welding metallurgy, failure analysis, welding processes, and design of weldments. Experience with emerging welding process technologies and advanced materials is also of interest. The successful individual must be able to communicate subject material, relate to students and faculty, and should be committed to seeking outside research funding.
