Frequently Asked Preview Questions

  1. When and where does the event begin?

For Thursday - Friday Events: Registration begins at 4:00 pm on Thursday.  Check in is at the S.E. Belcher Jr. Chapel and Performance Center .  There will be signs posted on campus directing you where to go.

For Monday Events: Registration begins at 6:30 pm on Sunday (for students staying on campus that evening) or 8:00 am Monday morning.  Check in is at the Admissions Office on the 2nd floor of the Library.  There will be signs posted on campus directing you where to go.

  1. When is the event over?

Events are over Friday or Monday late in the afternoon unless otherwise stated in the schedule.

  1. What is the schedule?

There is a tentative schedule available online for both parents and students.   The schedules posted online are updated as changes are made.  You will be given a final schedule when you check in for the event.

  1. Where should I fly in?

The closest airports (in this order) are East Texas Regional Airport (GGG) in Longview, TX-10 minutes away; Tyler Pounds Field (TYR) in Tyler, TX-45 minutes away; Shreveport Regional Airport (SHV) in Shreveport, LA-1 hour away; and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) or Dallas Love Field (DAL) in Dallas, TX-about 2 ½ to 3 hours away.

  1. Will you pick me up from the airport?

If a student is traveling alone, we will pick them up at the Longview airport for free and from Tyler or Shreveport airports for a $25 round trip fee.  We will also pick students up from the Longview Greyhound or Amtrak stations free of charge.  We are not able to provide transportation for parents.

  1. Will my parents need to rent a car?

Yes.  There are several local hotels within a few miles of the university, but none within easy walking distance.  Mileage can be kept low, but a rental car will be needed.

  1. Will my parents need a hotel room?

Yes.  Due to spacing and availability, we are not able to house parents on campus.  There are several local hotels close by and they are welcome to participate in as much of the events as they like.  A copy will be sent to you when you register or you can request it be sent earlier by calling the admissions office at (800)759-8811 ext. 4300.

  1. Is there a list of local hotels you would recommend?

We do have a list prepared of local hotels that have been recommended to us by past guests.  Many of these hotels also offer a discount if you mention you will be visiting LeTourneau University .  Please mention this when inquiring about accommodations! You can find a list of hotels on our website .

  1. How do I get to campus?

Directions will be sent to you when you register or you can find specific directions on our website. 

  1. How much does it cost?

The event fee is $35 per student.  This fee includes meals and housing for the student as well as all the activities associated with the event.  There is also a $25 round trip fee if we will be picking you up at the airport (please see question 5 for details).  There is no extra charge for parents.

  1. What do I need to bring?

Please bring a towel, toiletries, alarm clock, $35 fee (if you haven’t prepaid), comfortable clothes/shoes, sleeping bag, and pillow.  You will be staying with current students if you decide to stay on campus and extra beds are rare!

  1. What should I wear?

Dress for the weekend is casual.  Jeans and t-shirts are fine, but please check current weather reports for temperature and rain forecasts. 

  1. How do I prepay the $35 registration fee?

You can either send a check or cash into the admissions office at the address below or you can call into the Admissions Office at (800)759-8811 ext. 4300.  They will be able to assist you in paying your fee using a credit card.  We accept Master Card, Visa, or Discover.

  1. Is there any help with travel expenses?

There is a Travel Grant available for first time visitors for up to $300.

  1. Do I need to be there the whole time?

We recommend attendance for the whole event since that will give you the most opportunity to see the campus.  If you are not able to be here for the whole event, please let your Admissions Counselor know!

  1. Do I have to stay on campus?  

You do not have to stay on campus although we do recommend it since that will be a significant part of your experience here when you are a student.

  1. Can I stay with a friend who is a student?  

You can request to stay with a specific current student although it depends on that student’s is availability.

  1. Can I stay with a friend that will also be visiting?

You can request to stay near a friend who will be visiting also.  We do not usually put more than one previewing student in a room so as to not overcrowd a space, but we can usually make sure you are on the same residence hall floor.

  1. How do I request a meeting that is not on the schedule?

Please make your request in the “Comments” section or you call in to the Admissions office and make your request over the phone.  (800)759-8811 ext. 4300.  We will do our best to accommodate these special requests.

  1. How can my parents get in touch with me?

If your parents are at the event, they will be given your room assignment and a phone number for that room.  If they are not there, you can call them (remember to bring a long-distance card) and give them that information.  Either way, it is usually easier if you have a personal cell phone you can use during the weekend so your parents can contact you directly. 

  1. Can my parents purchase meals in the dining hall?

Yes!  The dining hall accepts cash and credit/debit cards.  Prices are as follows; breakfast-$5, lunch-$6, and dinner-$7 (including tax).  There is also a grill called “The Hive”.  The dining hall is buffet and The Hive is a la carte.
