Frequently Asked Questions

When is the Heritage competition?
The Heritage competition will be held February 7-9th 2013.

Do I need to send in an updated resume?
We strongly encourage you send one in. The judges will receive a portfolio containing all of the resumes. Updated resumes can be emailed to MeganKorthals@letu.edu or uploaded through letu.edu/resume

What if I do not send in an updated resume?
We will use the resume you sent us when you applied to the university.

Can I arrive on Friday?
No. Students must arrive on or before Thursday, February 7, 2013 and stay until Saturday, February 9, 2013 at noon. Accommodations for arriving early and/or leaving late can be made; however, students cannot arrive on Friday or leave before Saturday at noon.

Does it cost anything to come and compete?
LeTourneau does not charge students a fee to compete in the Heritage Scholarship Competition. Once on campus, meals and lodging are free for the competing students. Parents should expect to pay for a hotel and meals if they choose to attend with their student. Some area hotels offer LeTourneau discounts for parents.

Do I have to come to Longview to compete?
Yes. Due to the nature of the competition, students are required to be on campus for the event.

Should my parents come with me?
Absolutely. We highly encourage parents to come and learn more about LeTourneau.

What does "professional attire" mean?
Here are the minimums.
Men: A button down shirt, tie and appropriate pants to match.
Women: Dress pants or skirt and an appropriate top to match.

What do I need to bring to campus with me?
Aside from the professional attire (see above) for the interview, you should pack like it's a three-day vacation. It can be chilly (it has snowed in the past), so pack a jacket or sweater and keep checking the weather.  A sleeping bag is probably a good idea unless you like sleeping on the floor.

How many scholarships are there?

We have three tiers of scholarship that we will award based on the results from the Heritage Competition. Each Scholarship will replace the current Presidential Scholarship you were previously awarded.
Students finishing in the top 10 will receive a Heritage scholarship worth full tuition for four years. Students finishing in 11-20th place will receive a Presidential Platinum scholarship worth $16,000 a year for four years. Students finishing in 21-30th place will receive the Presidential Gold scholarship worth $13,000 a year for four years.

Exactly how much is the Heritage Scholarship worth?
Full Tuition for 4 years.

When will I know if I have been awarded the scholarship?
Students awarded the Heritage scholarship will be notified on or before March 16th, 2013.
