Yellow Ribbon Program

LeTourneau University is partnering with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to welcome our returning troops back home and to our campus. We're proud to honor all military members by participating in the federal POST 9/11 GI Bill®.

Yellow Ribbon benefits are available for any veteran who honorably served on active duty for at least three years since Sept. 11, 2001.

HOW IT WORKS

The new G.I. Bill will provide eligible veterans' tuition up to 100 percent of the cost at the most-expensive public university in a veteran's state. Veterans looking to attend a private institution, such as LeTourneau, may also qualify for the Yellow Ribbon Program, which bridges any cost gaps for tuition between a public and private college education.

Since Texas public tuition rates are some of the nation's highest, our veterans will find exceptional cost benefits at all LETU locations in the Lone Star State.

HERE ARE THE STEPS TO TAKE:

  1. Determine your eligibility. You can speak directly with VA education representative, using a toll free number 888-442-4551 (888.GI Bill 1), who can answer questions, advise you on eligibility for the different chapters, and provide instructions on the application process. You can also review information on the GI Bill® website: http://gibill.va.gov.
  2. Complete the necessary forms. You can get printed applications from regional VA offices and most active duty military stations. The Application for VA Education Benefits (VA Form 22-1990) is the main document needed by the VA. Depending on your eligibility and the VA criteria for various programs, additional forms may be needed. You can visit the VA web address to either print off application forms or apply online at https://www.va.gov/education/how-to-apply/.
  3. File your application with the VA. If you do not choose to apply online, mail the VA forms to: VA Regional Office, P. O. Box 8888, Muskogee, OK 74402-8888. Applying online will shorten the time to set up a VA student record.
  4. Complete LeTourneau University's admissions process and pay tuition. Enroll for a course and provide payment or proof of FAFSA submission. Inform your admissions contact that you applied for VA and ask him or her to certify your enrollment for the VA.
  5. VA completes the application process. Once the VA receives your application you will receive a written response regarding your approval about 4-6 weeks from the date your application was submitted. If your application is approved you will receive a Certificate of Eligibility confirming your benefit approval that you will need to send to the school.

Get Credit for What You Already Know

You may be able to earn college credit for what you already know! LeTourneau University will assess military course completion and military occupational experience listed on your military transcripts to apply for the maximum allowable transfer credit recommended by the Academic Council on Education (ACE).

LeTourneau University follows the guidelines established in A Guide to Evaluation of Education Experiences in the Armed Services as a basis for applying military experience credits.

For more on the American Council of Education's standards for evaluating credits from the Armed Forces, please refer to the ACE Net Military Guides (for Army, Navy, Marines) or learning about the College Credit Recommendation Service.

For more information on prior learning credits at LeTourneau University, go to the Prior Learning Assessment web page.

Military Transcripts

Below is a listing of the various Military Transcript types and how to obtain your records for evaluation by LeTourneau University.

JST

JST is the Joint Services Transcript which replaced the Coast Guard Institute Transcript, the Army/American Council on Education Registry Transcript System (AARTS) and the Sailor/Marine American Council on Education Registry Transcript (SMART). JST is an academically accepted document approved by the American Council on Education (ACE) to validate a service member's military occupational experience and training along with the corresponding ACE college credit recommendations (URL for JST: https://jst.doded.mil/jst/).

All enlisted, officers and warrant officers, both active and veterans from all Army components, Coast Guard, Marine Corps and Navy are eligible for a JST. Note that JST receives its data from underlying Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps and Navy personnel systems. Air Force personnel should contact CCAF.

CCAF

The Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) is the only college system designed solely for enlisted members. The programs are designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills and theoretical background for enhanced performance as technicians and non-commissioned officers.

As an Airman, you can obtain a free unofficial copy of your transcript online through CCAF, or order an official copy online or via telephone from Credentials, Inc. for a minimal charge - the transcripts will be mailed the next business day. You can also apply civilian credit to your CCAF record - allow 10 business days from the date of receipt for CCAF to process your civilian transcript.

CGI

The Coast Guard Institute (CGI) provides training and education services, information and guidance for all Coast Guard members. As a member of the Coast Guard, you must first have an assessment completed before you can request an official transcript. The assessment forms the basis for your transcript.

You can complete an Official USCG Transcript Request Form CGI-1564 once you have chosen the college or university you wish to attend. The transcript will document your military learning experiences - it will be compiled based on the recommendations of the American Council on Education (ACE).

NEED YOUR TRANSCRIPT?

Contact your branch of service at the links below to have an official transcript sent directly to LeTourneau University. There is no charge for this service.

  • Air Force
  • Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Navy: the JST is now the official transcript tool for Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Coast Guard personnel that validates and documents the recommended college credits for professional military education, training courses and occupational experience of service members and veterans.

Transfer Courses

Transfer courses may be taken at local colleges and universities, or through regionally accredited online schools. Please contact LETU's Office of the Registrar (email registrar@letu.edu or call 903-233-4370) to find the appropriate form for course approval.
