The Middle East Studies Program allows students to explore and interact with the complex and strategic world of the modern Middle East. The interdisciplinary seminars give students the opportunity to explore the diverse religious, social, cultural and political traditions of Middle Eastern peoples. Students also study the Arabic language and work as volunteers with various organizations.
PLEASE NOTE: The Arab Spring has brought change and challenge to the Middle East as well as to the MESP program. Due to the unpredictable political climate in Egypt, the MESP program has relocated to Jerusalem for at least the next three semesters—Spring 2012, Fall 2012, and Spring 2013. Because MESP is more about vocation rather than location, the program will continue to offer the same curriculum, learning objectives, and experiences that have distinguished and defined the program for years.
Through travel to Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria and Turkey, students are exposed to the diversity and dynamism of the region. At a time of tension and change in the Middle East, MESP encourages and equips students to relate to the Muslim world in an informed, constructive and Christ centered manner.
The MESP courses are only offered through the Middle East Studies Program of the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities.
