State Exams
TRAD, TEACH, PACT, and MEd (Teaching and Learning):
Students Seeking Teacher Certification
The State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) requires all candidates for a Texas Teaching Certificate to pass teacher certification exams. These exams are referred to as TExES (Texas Examinations for Educator Standards) or ExCET (Examination for the Certification of Educators in Texas).
Typically, candidates must pass two types of state exams:
-
Content area test
-
Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPR) test
Candidates seeking Secondary Spanish, German or French certification have a new exam called LOTE. The new exam covers all areas in one test.
Upon successful completion of a practice exam the candidate will receive approval to test. Candidates can verify their test approval by going to www.texes.ets.org. Choose REGISTER at the top of the page and log in. Follow the instructions to register for an exam. Test approvals are also posted at the SBEC web site and can be viewed by going to www.sbec.state.tx.us/SBECOnline > VIEW EXAMINATIONS.
