The EC-6 (generalist certificate) prepares you to teach in grades PK-4, PK-5, K, and 1st – 6th grade self-contained classrooms. You can use this degree to teach children in the early childhood settings and elementary grades.
You can select your placement for four field experience practicums in various EC-6 settings, such as early childhood day care, preschool facilities and public and/or private primary school classrooms.
Also, if you want to be certified, you must successfully pass the EC-6 generalist and the EC-6 Professional Practices and Responsibilities TExES exams.
All EC-6 majors also specialize in their choice of special education or ESL. When you graduate from LeTourneau University, you will be dually certified in EC-6 and your choice of special education or ESL.
The 4th – 8th grade certificate prepares you to teach specific content areas in fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade classrooms.
You can choose from two combinations: math/science and language arts/social studies, or the 4 – 8 Generalist certificate.
For your four field experience practicums, you will be placed in a variety of elementary, middle, and/or junior high school classrooms.
Also, if you want to be certified, you must successfully pass the 4 – 8 Math/Science or Language Arts/Social Studies and 4 – 8 Professional Practices and Responsibilities TExES exams.
You can also add the Supplemental Special Education and/or ESL certificate(s) to this option.
