Pre-Physical/Occupational Therapy Program

PTs and OTs are professionals that work from a physician’s prescription for evaluation and treatment. These members of the health care team see their patients on a very regular basis for several weeks or months. A good fit for this profession is someone who is patient and positive. The training level for licensure is at the master’s degree level with a number of programs moving to the doctoral level.

Physical therapists generally are working with the patient to restore strength and range of motion for movement of the body.

Occupational therapists generally are working with the patient to develop or restore fine motor skills and activities of daily living.

As with most of the other health professions, experience to gain knowledge of the profession is an advantage to the student applicant for these training programs after earning the bachelor’s degree. Often, there is a minimum number of hours of pre-requisite courses that may be completed as part of a  biology degree or a kinesiology, exercise science degree . If the kinesiology degree is chosen, calculus and organic chemistry may be required by some schools.
