Pre-Pharmacy Program
Pharmacists dispense regulated medications at the request of other health professionals that have that authority to write scripts, such as physicians, dentists or PAs. Most work in two settings: retail or institutional. Pharmacists in institutions spend much of their time formulating IV preparations specific to each patient. Retail pharmacists interact with many more people and make sure that medications meet the medical and insurance protocols.
A Pharmacy Doctorate (PharmD) is the standard degree required for licensure. Prerequisite undergraduate courses and Pharmacy College Aptitude Test (PCAT) are part of the applicant’s package for entrance into a PharmD program of study. Admissions committees also want to see evidence of altruistic character.
As with other health-related professions, a knowledge of the profession and evidence of consistent moral character that includes care for others and honesty are key.

* Please note that the pre-health and pre-law programs are not majors. Utilized along with our suggested majors, these programs prepare students for graduate school in their chosen field.
