Clinical Observation

Introduction to Clinical Issues is a seminar course that informs the student about various types of clinical health care professions and challenges the student to examine the fit of their own gifts and motivations for a career in the health-care professions. This course is taken in the freshman or sophomore year. This course is a pre-requisite for Clinical Observation. Clinical Observation is a shadowing experience practicum. After meeting certain requirements, such as a TB test, successful completion of Intro to Clinical Issues, hospital facility orientation, and recommendation of the Chief Health Professions Advisor, the student selects clinicians to observe. No patient care is administered by the observer. A journal is created and a learning outcomes essay is written by the student observer. The biology degree requires two semesters of this course for students seeking a clinical profession.
