Aircraft Systems Major

Our program's extensive hands-on experience trains you to keep aircraft in peak operating condition. You'll earn your Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Technician Certificate and graduate prepared to perform scheduled aircraft maintenance, make repairs and complete FAA-required inspections as an aircraft mechanic, or avionics service technician:

  • Aircraft maintenance technician (AMT) - Work on everything from a Piper Cub to a Boeing 747 as a licensed aviation professional in corporate aviation, airline, or mission aviation organizations.
  • Technical writer - Translate the technical data and write the procedures used by AMTs, avionics technicians and even pilots.
  • Airline company trainer - Instruct other aviation industry professionals on the specifics of complex aircraft maintenance.
  • Airline Maintenance Scheduler - Coordinate the complex maintenance procedures routinely performed on airliners.

Aircraft Systems Major + Computer Science Concentration

With your Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Technician Certificate, you will graduate ready to put your in-depth knowledge of avionics, software and aircraft systems to use as an:

  • Aircraft electronics systems manufacturing engineer

Aircraft Systems Major + Electrical Technology Concentration

FYI: LETU graduates of this concentration are aggressively recruited for systems engineering jobs. There is high demand for aviation grads with both Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) and electronic system skills. With this concentration, you can work as an aircraft maintenance technician or an:

  • Engineer / designer for avionics supplier - Aircraft manufacturers usually purchase avionics subsystems from third-party suppliers.  
  • Designer / engineer / technician for aircraft completion center - Completion centers install custom interiors, avionics and entertainment systems in every type of aircraft imaginable.  
  • Designer / technician / manager for avionics specialty shop - These shops specialize in upgrades and refurbishment of avionics systems in small aircraft.

Aircraft Systems Major + Mechanical Technology Concentration

Put your Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Certificate and aeronautical engineering skills to use as an airplane maintenance engineer, as well as a:

Aircraft Systems Major + Maintenance Management Concentration

Air Traffic Control Major

This two year program of study will guide you through our Air Traffic Collegiate Training Initiative (AT-CTI) program. As a graduate of the AT-CTI program you will be eligible to apply for employment with the FAA and bypass the Air Traffic Basics Course, which is the first five weeks of qualifications training at the FAA Academy in Oklahoma city. (FAA.gov)

  • Air traffic controller in an airport control tower - Guide aircraft as they take off, land and taxi from or to the terminal.
  • TRACON controller - Guide aircraft approaching and departing airports within 30- to 50-mile radius up to 10,000 feet, as well as aircraft flying over that airspace.
  • En route controller - Guide airplanes flying at high altitudes through large sections of airspace over the U.S. 

Air Traffic Management Major

This four year program of study will guide you through our Air Traffic Collegiate Training Initiative (AT-CTI) program. Our school is a nationally recognized leader in both flight and maintenance training. When combined, our maintenance training (A&P) program and our commercial pilot school, will prepare you to be the consummate aviation professional.
