A message from the Dean

Fred Ritchey, Dean of Aeronautical Science

Who has God designed you to be? What has he called you to do? These are important questions; questions that we believe must be answered if you are to achieve your greatest potential. What better place is there to explore the answers to these questions than at a Christian college, in one of the foremost aviation universities in the USA, in a community where faculty and staff see their work -- serving students -- as a holy calling?

Indeed, as you get to know us, you will find that our Christian faith is foundational to all that we do. You will also learn that with a long history of aviation education, highly-qualified faculty, respected alumni, excellent students, and state-of-the-art facilities, we have a lot to offer.

A long tradition of excellence:

Our program began in 1956 as an “on the job” training program at our founder’s aviation business here in Longview Texas. Students could begin studies on any given Monday and learned by working alongside qualified aviation professionals. Over the past five decades almost everything about our program has changed. But the personal integrity, professional excellence and ability to “get the job done” remain the hallmark of LeTourneau aviation graduates.

Highly-qualified faculty:

Our faculty have world class industry experience which includes airline, corporate, manufacturing, and military aviation, as well as mission aviation. Our faculty have “been there and done that” and their experience provides a unique richness to the classroom and laboratory.

Respected alumni:

LETU aviation alumni are working around the globe as mission pilots, mechanics and leaders, airline pilots, engineers, managers, military pilots, corporate leaders,  air traffic controllers, aircraft inspectors and mechanics. They are God’s ambassadors, making a positive contribution in aviation workplaces around the world.

Quality students:

Our students work hard to become excellent in their profession. They also give back to our community and industry. Whether it is our NIFA team supporting the largest “fly-in” in the state, or our mission aviation students helping promote the Gospel in remote parts of the world, our students are actively engaged in service learning.

State-of-the-Art facilities:

The Paul and Betty Abbott Aviation Center is a world class aviation education facility located within sight of where our story began five decades ago. Our students study in state-of-the-art laboratories and airplanes that are maintained by our own professional staff.

Of course there is more to our story than I can convey in a few paragraphs. Let me invite you to get to know us better, to learn our story if you will, through our website. Perhaps, as you prepare for your life of work in aviation, we can help you write the next chapter in your story.
