How do I easily access a public folder in Outlook using Favorite Folders?
Outlook provides a function called Favorite Folders which allows you to view the contents of frequently-viewed public folders easily from your main Outlook view without having to visit the All Folders tree-view of the public folder structure.
- You should have a button on the bottom-left menu of your Outlook called Folder List (see example screenshot below):

- Once you click on Folder List you should see a different view of folders - the top part of which is your normal email box folders and which at the bottom has an entry Public Folders
- You can access the delivered email for any particular public folder by browsing to your folder as in the example below:
All Public Folders
Faculty Staff
Department
FolderName - If you'd like to be able to see the status of new items in that folder easily from the main page you see with your Outlook Inbox:
- Right-click on the FolderName folder and choose Add to Favorites
- Select OK for any prompts following.
- Then go up above in the Favorites section of the folder tree and right-click the copy of FolderName there and choose Add to Favorite Folders.
- This folder should now show up on the top-left corner of your outlook when you return to your normal view by clicking on the "Mail" view button on the bottom-left of Outlook. See below for an example of the final result - these folders will show unread message counts and bold on unread email just like normal Outlook folders.
