KMP http://www.letu.edu/it/faq/ en-us KnowlageBase RSS Generator How can I set up my iPhone to check my LETU email account? http://www.letu.edu/it/faq/article/AA-00170 How can I set up my iPhone or iPod Touch to work with my LETU email account?

To begin, you'll need to go to the email accounts setup area in your iPhone. To do this:

1. Open Settings.
2. Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

Next, you'll want to add a LetNet account to the list. To do this:

3. Tap Add Account...
4. Tap Other.
5. Fill in your name, your email address, and your LetNet password. Fill in a description if you like, but it's not required.
6. Tap Save in the top-right hand corner of the screen.
7. On this page, leave IMAP highlighted and scroll down to Incoming Mail Server. Fill in the following values:

Incoming Mail Server
Host Name: mail.letu.edu
User Name: <your LetNet user name>
Password: <your password, should already be filled in>

Outgoing Mail Server
Host Name: mail.letu.edu
User Name: <your LetNet user name>
Password: <your password>

8. Tap Save in the top-right-hand corner.

It should now say IMAP verified, and you should be good to go! Go back to the main screen and open Mail, and open your new account. You should see the last 50 the messages from your LetNet Webmail.

NOTE: The previous setup will work when you are on-campus and connected to LetNet via wireless.  When you are off-campus, this setup will still be able to receive mail, but you'd need to use your service provider's (AT&T) SMTP/outgoing server in order to send mail.

Can I have my @letu.edu email account forwarded to another address? http://www.letu.edu/it/faq/article/AA-00166 Can I have my @letu.edu email account forwarded to another address?

There are a couple of answers to this question.  First, you can set up LetNet WebMail to forward a copy of all new emails to another address.  Also of note, if you are a graduating senior, your LetNet account will be deactivated once you've graduated, but we can forward your mails to another account for up to three months as you transition to a new address. Specifics on both of these avenues are listed below.

Setting up a forwarding rule in LetNet Webmail
You can set up a rule in LetNet Webmail to have it forward a copy of all emails to another address.  To access the part of the webmail interface which allows you to do this, you must use Internet Explorer.  Once you've got the rule in place, of course, you can go back to using any browser you like - but to set up the rule you need to use IE.  If for some reason using IE on your computer is not an option for you, you can always stop by one of the LU computer labs, or use a friend's computer.

Access the Rules interface

In Internet Explorer, visit the LetNet Webmail system at http://mail.letu.edu.  On the left side of the window, toward the bottom, you should find a bar labeled Rules, as pictured here:

Create a New Rule

After selecting Rules, next just hit New rule on the tool bar at the top of the right pane, as pictured below:

Setting up the New Rule

This will bring up a window where you'll create the new rule.  Setting up the new rule is simple.  It's a good idea to put a name for your rule in the top field, though not strictly necessary.  Then leave all the other blanks empty, except the last one.  Click the dot next to that last blank, which is marked Forward it to, then fill in the email address you want to forward your messages to.  When you're finished, click Save and Close at the top-left and you are done.

If you are a graduating senior
If you are a graduating senior who is finished with classes, we provide email forwarding for up to three months post-graduation.  If you're going to be graduating soon, have finished with classes and would like to have your mail forwarded, just send an email to support@letu.edu with the following information:

  • Identify yourself as a graduating senior
  • Your current email address and the one you'd like it forwarded to
  • Your student ID number

Can I connect my gaming console to the internet in my dorm room? http://www.letu.edu/it/faq/article/AA-00168 Can I connect my gaming console to the internet in my dorm room?

Registering your device to your LetNet account

Yes, though just like with your computer, you'll need to get your system registered to your LetNet account.  Because most console devices don't have a web browser that works like a computer, you'll need send us some information that will allow us to manually register the device to you.  In particular, we need:

  • Your LetNet user account name
  • Your student ID number
  • The MAC address of your system's network adapter

Finding your system's MAC address

So, this begs the question, "How can I find out what my system's MAC address is?"  Generally you'll be able to find this listed in one of the setup screens for your device.  Let's look at some specific examples.

XBox 360

New dashboard (NXE)
  1. In the Xbox Dashboard, go to My Xbox and open System Settings.

  2. Select Network Settings, Configure Network.
  3. On the Additional Settings tab select Advanced Settings.

  4. Your MAC address appears here under the label WIred MAC Address.  The XBox's optional wireless adapter does not support PEAP authentication, so you'll need to use the wired network connection only.

Old dashboard (Pre-NXE)
  1. Go to the System blade of the Xbox Dashboard and select Network Settings.

  2. Select Edit Settings.
  3. From Additional Settings, select Advanced Settings.

  4. Your MAC address appears at the bottom of this screen under the title Wired MAC Address.

Playstation 3

  1. Go to the Settings item on the Cross Media Bar and select System Settings.

  2. Select System Information.

  3. MAC address will be displayed as the top item on the list here, in the red-boxed area shown below.

Nintendo Wii

Out of the box, the Wii has some wireless network capability.  However, it does not support strong wireless authentication protocols including PEAP (which LetNet Wireless uses), so it is unable to connect to LetNet via wireless.  Nintendo sells a Wii LAN Adapter (click here for more details from Nintendo) which WILL allow you to connect your Wii to the network.  As with other consoles, you'll need to find the MAC address for the add-on LAN adapter.  The optional wired LAN adapter should have its MAC address printed on the side of it.

Error message when creating an email rule: "One or more rules could not be uploaded to Exchange server" http://www.letu.edu/it/faq/article/AA-00167 I am receiving the error "One or more rules could not be uploaded to Exchange server" when attempting to create a new rule in Outlook or LetNet Webmail. How can I fix this?

Unfortunately, there is a hard limit on the size of rules which clients can upload to the Exchange Server.

This limit has been made more critical by the increase in individual rule sizes in Outlook 2003 to accommodate Unicode text in the rules.

Currently, due to RPC communication limits, Microsoft does not plan to expand the size limit. The following information describes ways to reduce the size of rules as much as possible in order to fit more rules in on your mailbox:

Microsoft Exchange Server has a maximum limit of 32 kilobytes (KB) for storage of rules. Rules vary in size, but some rules can be significantly larger when they involve multiple recipients in a forward action. Each recipient can add up to 500 bytes to the size of the rule. As a rough estimate, the simplest rules take from 200 to 500 bytes. Rules involving recipients add approximately 500 bytes per recipient. A rule that forwards a message to five recipients can be over 3 KB in size.

Also rules addressing recipients by full display names along with email addresses use up rule space (i.e. Jack Jones (j.jones@jones.net) is better referenced as simply j.jones@jones.net).

When rules involve several recipients, it is best to create a distribution list and use the distribution list as the recipient. This allows more rules to be created before reaching the 32 KB rule limit. Personal distribution lists are not allowed in rules; only administrative lists defined on the organizational level may be used.

Microsoft has also provided some workarounds for this in the following knowledgebase article: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=886616

I'm getting an error message saying my mailbox is full. What should I do? http://www.letu.edu/it/faq/article/AA-00165 What should I do if I get an error stating my mailbox is full?

If you receive this message it means you have reached the storage limit for your email box. Limits are different for different types of users - and the message you receive should indicate what your limit currently is.

Until you bring the size of your mailbox back down below the limit, you'll be unable to send email. If you are far enough over the limit, you will not be able to receive additional email until you reduce the size of your mailbox.

To get under the limit, look for folders which have messages with large files in them. Typically this is the "Sent Items" folder since it keeps a copy of all messages you send. You may click on the "Size" header to sort any folder by the size of the messages. This allows you to easily identify the largest messages.

If you have deleted items from that folder you will need to right-click on the "Deleted Items" folder and empty it since messages count against your quota until they are emptied from the "Deleted items" folder.

Another good way to tell exactly which folders are consuming most of your space is to use the tool at http://mail.letu.edu/mailboxsize to see a summary of your mailbox folder sizes. (Please note that this page may take a moment or two to load).

What is the maximum number of recipients for a single email? How can I email a large group of people? http://www.letu.edu/it/faq/article/AA-00163 How can I email a large group of people? How many people can I email at once?

In general, there are few valid reasons for most users of LeTourneau's email system to send email to large groups of recipients.

As detailed in the Email Communication section of the LeTourneau Technology Guidelines, the use of "mass mailings" by most users to address large quantities of LetNet users via e-mail is not permitted. If you believe your job requires you to send a single email to large numbers of recipients please first consult with your supervisor or with Information Technology to confirm if there is already a system in place to meet that need.

Any message from LETU composed to a non-LETU email address must comply with the federal CAN-SPAM act (see guidelines for business here). Please consult Information Technology if you need more information on appropriate ways to comply with this federal requirement.

There is a system limit on any single email of 100 recipients. Even emails which have recipients below this limit must conform to the guidelines above.

If you need to email more people than this you may contact IT for assistance in getting your mail out.  We can assist with targeted customized emailing to appropriate groups (e.g.: Athletics dept. wants to send a custom email to all athletes). For any other mass emails (general announcements to all Faculty/staff or students, etc.) we can assist if we receive the approval of a University VP.

How can I configure my iPhone or iPod Touch for LetNet Wireless? http://www.letu.edu/it/faq/article/AA-00130 Configuring an iPhone or iPod Touch for LetNet Wireless

It is possible, once the device has been registered on the network, to connect to LetNet Wireless with an iPhone or iPod Touch.  The steps involved are detailed here.

Registering your iPhone / iPod
The first thing you'll need to do is get your iPhone/iPod registered to you for use on the network.  To do that, you'll need to contact IT and provide your device's MAC address, your student ID number, and your LetNet user name - and we can register the device to you.  Once that has happened, you'll be able to connect to LetNet Wireless via the following procedure.

Setting up a wireless connection to LetNet on your device

First, starting from your home screen, you'll want to select the Settings item, as shown here.
Next, from the main Settings screen, select Wi-Fi, at the top.
You should see a list of available wireless networks, and one of them should say "letnet."  Select that network - be sure not to select the one that says "guest."  You should be prompted for a user name and password. At this prompt, enter your LetNet user name and password.
Once you've authenticated, the phone will attempt to establish a connection, as shown here.
You'll see the wireless "waves" icon appear at the top-left once a connection has been established, highlighted by the red arrow here.
Back at the home screen, verify that you still have the wireless connection screen at the top-left.  And that's all there is to it.

How can I configure my Windows Vista-based computer to use LetNet wireless? http://www.letu.edu/it/faq/article/AA-00129 Configuring your Windows XP system to use LetNet Wireless

Here we'll take a look at how to configure Windows XP-based computers to use LetNet Wireless.  It's worth noting, however, that there are still a couple of potential roadblocks or gotchas that could make this information irrelevant.  The first one is that your computer must have a wireless adapter that supports connections via the PEAP security method.  Most any vaguely-recently-manufactured one will, but there are some older ones in existence that do not.  Second, while Windows XP has a built-in wireless connection manager tool - the one we're showing how to configure in this article - many computers come with a third-party wireless configuration tool that looks completely different.  In most cases, you can just disable that third-party tool and just use the Windows wireless system as shown here.  However, there are a lot of different manufacturers with a lot of different kinds of proprietary wireless software - so it is possible that your mileage may vary.

Right-click on the network icon on your taskbar and select Connect to a network.

Double-click on the network that you want to connect to. For most users, this will be the one called simply letnet.  If you are a guest on the campus and have been issued a password for use with guest wireless, you'd want to use the guest entry in that case.
Enter "letnet" (all lowercase) in the Network Name field and click Next.
Click on Enter/select additional log on information.
Enter your LetNet username and password, enter "LETNET" as your logon domain and click OK.
When prompted to Validate Server Certificate click OK.
Ensure that Save this network and Start this connection automatically are checked and click OK.

How can I set up my email client to check my LetNet email account? http://www.letu.edu/it/faq/article/AA-00125 Configuring an email client for your LetNet email account

The easiest, most straightforward and portable way to check your LetNet email is to go in your browser to MyLETU, log in, and click the email link, as described in this article.  That being the case, you can get by just fine without ever setting up your email account in a separate program as described in this article.  However, some users may find that using a third-party email client is what works best for them.  This article provides instructions and information necessary to configure an email client program if that is your preference.  The way you'd go about setting this up might vary a bit, depending on whether you are on campus or off-campus, and whether or not you also want to use other methods to check your emails.

If you are a residential student, living on campus:
If you are on-campus, you can use the LU email server for both sending and receiving emails. You'd want to set up your email client to use:

  • POP server - mail.letu.edu
  • Outgoing/SMTP server - mail.letu.edu

If you are off-campus as a student, faculty, or staff:
When you're off-campus, there is one difference in what settings you'll want to use, and it is that from off-campus, you can't use the letu email server to send outgoing mail.  Instead, you'll want to use the outgoing email server of your internet service provider. If you're not sure what your internet provider's outgoing email server address is, you should be able to find that from an FAQ or setup guide on their web site. In the example setup, below, we'll set up the client this way.

  • POP server - mail.letu.edu
  • Outgoing/SMTP server - <your ISP's SMTP server>

An important consideration:
One important thing to consider is whether you want your email client program to actually remove the messages from the server when it checks your email. That is the default behavior, meaning that unless you tell it otherwise, the first time it checks your email, it's going to download all of those messages and then remove them from the server.  When you check your email with LetNet WebMail, it shows you all of your emails that are on the email server.  So, if you set up Outlook or Outlook Express on your home computer, then it downloads all of those messages and deletes them from the server, you won't see them on LetNet Webmail any more. They'll still be on your computer at home in Outlook, but nowhere else. If you're going to always be checking mail from the same place, that's fine. If you might be checking mail from other places, it's good to set your email client to leave a copy of messages on the server.  In the example here showing Outlook 2007, this option is highlighted by a yellow circle, indicating an optional step.

Outlook 2007

So, let's take a look at how you might set all of this up. In this example, we'll set up Outlook 2007 as though we're operating it from off-campus.

Tools > Account Settings

1. To begin with, in Outlook, pull down the Tools menu and select Account Settings, as seen below.

The Account Settings screen

2. This should bring you to a screen like this, where you'll want to hit the New button to create a new email account for your LetNet email to be set up under, as circled in the screen shot here.

Add a new email account

3. On the next screen, you'll want to leave the radio button as it is initially - set to the first option, which says Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP.  Click Next.

Manually configure server settings...

4.  On the next screen you'll see a lot of blanks asking you to fill in some information - ignore them, and just check the box at the bottom that says Manually configure server settings or additional server types. Then click Next.

Internet E-mail

5.
The next box we can leave as it is - Internet E-mail should be selected by default, which is good. Click Next.

Filling in all the details

6.
And finally, here's the screen where you will want to fill in the relevant information.  Where it says Your Name you'll want to put your name as you want it to appear on your emails (i.e. John Doe) and the E-Mail Address should have your LetNet email address (i.e. JohnDoe@letu.edu).  Account type should be POP3, which should be pre-selected by default.  Incoming mail server should say mail.letu.edu, and Outgoing mail server (SMTP) should be set to your internet service provider's outgoing mail server (assuming you are off-campus - if you are on campus you can make them both say mail.letu.edu).  Finally, User Name and Password should be set to your LetNet user name and password.  You'll want to leave Remember Password checked unless you want it to prompt you for a password each time you check email.  Leave the other check box empty, then click More Settings, as shown in the example below.  Looking at the window that comes up as a result of clicking that More Settings button below, I've circled an option in yellow.  Yellow markings denote optional steps.  In this case, you don't have to check this option - but as mentioned above, you'll need to check it if you don't want your Outlook to remove your emails from the server as it receives them.  The other options on this screen we can leave alone.  Just hit OK and then Next.   Finally, click Finish on the next screen, and you're done.

How can I disable my pop-up blocker? http://www.letu.edu/it/faq/article/AA-00123 Disabling pop-up blockers

The problem
A pop-up blocker is a feature, included in most browsers and also in many add-on toolbars and utility programs, that will prevent web pages from popping up additional windows.  The objective is to block web sites from making pop-up advertisements in those little windows.  However, sometimes this can be a problem.  For example, suppose you are attempting to send an email from your @letu email account using the LetNet Webmail page.  When you click the button there that says "New message" the page normally will open up a blank email for you to type in, in a separate, smaller window.  If your computer has a pop-up blocker working, it can prevent that second window with the blank email from coming up at all.  As a result, what happens is you click the new email button and nothing happens.

The solutions
So, what to do about this?  Well, there are two possible solutions.  First, obviously, you can disable the pop-up blocker altogether, telling it to stand down and deactivate.  The only downside to that approach is that with the pop-up blocker permanently turned off, other sites can throw up advertisements in the pop-up windows again.  So, the second possible solution, which is generally preferable, is to configure your pop-up block to allow letu.edu sites to make pop-up windows, while still disallowing others.  Most pop-up blockers provide a mechanism for you to set up exceptions of this nature.

Internet Explorer and Firefox
If you're using Firefox or Internet Explorer, you have a pop-up blocker built right into your browser.  To find out how to configure these so that they won't interfere while you're at MyLETU, check this article, also linked at the bottom of this page under the related articles heading.

Other pop-up blockers
The next most common pop-up blockers are probably those built into commonly-used toolbars such as the Google toolbar or other similar ones. For the Google toolbar, there is an icon you click to allow pop-ups on the page you're at, as shown below.  Clicking the little icon with the red "no" symbol over it will remove the "no" sign, meaning pop-ups are allow at the page you're currently at.

If you have other toolbar add-ons installed in your browser, they might have a pop-up blocker feature that you'll want to disable or configure.  In addition, some anti-virus/internet security software provides pop-up blocking as well, so if you have such software installed, check the documentation for more info.

What web browsers are supported for use with MyLETU? http://www.letu.edu/it/faq/article/AA-00122 A list of supported web browsers:

  • Firefox 2.0 – 3.0.10
  • IE7
  • IE8 (compatibility mode suggested)
  • Safari versions 3.2.3 and below under Mac OS X (Windows version or versions 4+ not supported)

The above browsers are the ones that can definitely perform well with MyLETU and related sites.  Using browsers other than these, you may be fine and have no problems - or you may run into trouble that requires you to switch to one of the browsers mentioned above.

My login won't work and I can't get in! http://www.letu.edu/it/faq/article/AA-00121 Problems logging in

Basic info
The first thing you'll want to look at is to be sure you are aware of basic information about your LetNet account, such as what your user name will normally look like, how and when accounts get created or deactivated, where and when your LetNet account will allow you to log in, what the minimum requirements are for a password, etc.  You can find all of this information and more in the article linked here, or also linked from the related articles section below.  So, before you go much further, it would be a very good idea to have a look at that article and make sure you are familiar with the basics of your LetNet account.

Which page?
So, you are familiar with your LetNet account now, but what next if you still can't log in?  Next let's look at where you are attempting to log in.  Regardless of whether you want to get to an online course or check your email, or see your grades, the simplest thing to do is to begin by going to the MyLETU home page at http://my.letu.edu.  On this page, at the top right are boxes for your user name and password, where you'll want to log in. The screenshot below shows these login boxes circled in red (click on the thumbnail below to see a bigger view of it).

So, to make your life easier, if you are trying to log in at a different .letu page, try this one instead - it pulls everything together in one place, and you will only need to log in once and have access to all of it.

One notable exception: If the page you are trying to log in to is not an LU page, the information here won't apply.  One example might be if you are trying to log in to a database page to which our library subscribes, such as LexisNexis, EbscoHost, Mergent Online or others.  For more information about logging in to library databases, contact the library circulation desk at (903)233.3270.  Another example of an external site that requires special login information would be the efollett.com site, which is separate.  To log in to the efollett site, you'll want to create an account there and use the user name and password for that.  If you run into problems on the efollett.com site, our bookstore staff will be able to assist you.

Resetting your password

On the MyLETU home page, there is a link that says Forget yourpassword?  (Shown below).  Clicking that link will allow you to reset your password to a new one in the event that you have lost or forgotten it or otherwise having problems getting logged in.  One important thing to note is that this process will assign you a temporary password which will be randomly-generated, and in that randomly generated password will be one capital letter. It's essential to look for that capital letter and pay attention to it, and passwords are case-sensitive.  Once you get logged back in with the temporary password, of course, you can change your password to one of your choosing via the normal password change procedure.

How can I configure Internet Explorer 7 or 8 for use with MyLETU? http://www.letu.edu/it/faq/article/AA-00120 Configuring Internet Explorer 7 or 8 for use with MyLETU

There are a few things you want your browser to be able to do to ensure that you don't have problems with MyLETU and its related sites.  The main things are going to be to set your browser to be in compatibility mode (if you're running IE8), to be able to accept cookies, run JavaScript and Java, and display pop-up windows from MyLETU sites.  Here we'll look at how you can configure Internet Explorer 7 or 8 to do these things.

Turning on Compatibility View
This first step only applies to Internet Explorer 8 (IE8).  IE8 has an option called "Compatibility View" or "Compatibility mode" that causes the browser to be generally much more well-behaved and more compliant with standards.  The best way to turn this on is to add all .letu.edu sites to a list which instructs IE8 to use compatibility view for these sites. Here's how to do that:

First, go through the Tools menu to click on Compatibility View Settings, as shown below.

Adding letu.edu to your compatibility view list

This should bring you to a dialog like the one shown below.  You'll want to type letu.edu into the box at the top, then click the Add button, as shown in the screenshot.  This will add LeTourneau to the list of web sites that IE8 will use Compatibility View for.

Manually toggling compatibility view

Additionally, you can also just manually toggle Compatibility View on and off using this button that is on the toolbar at the top, just to the right of your address bar by default, shown here:

The Internet Options dialog

Next, you will need to bring up the Internet Options dialog.  There are a couple of ways to do this.  One of them is the click the Tools option on the toolbar, shown below on the right circled in yellow.  You can also pull down the Tools menu from the menu bar at the top left.  Now, by default that menu bar may not be visible, so if you don't see it there, tap your Alt key and it should appear, as shown below. So, either way though, you want to get down to the Internet Options menu item and click on it.

The Internet Options menu item in IE8, under the Tools menu

Adding *.letu.edu to Trusted Sites

In the Internet Options dialog that will come up, as shown below, you'll want to go to the Security tab, click the Sites button, and add *.letu.edu to your Trusted Sites list.  The asterisk in *.letu.edu tells Internet Explorer to include any site that is at letu.edu in the Trusted Sites list.

Disabling IE's pop-up blocker

Next, you'll want to do something very similar for Internet Explorer's pop-up blocker - you'll add *.letu.edu to a list of sites that the pop-up blocker does not regulate.  To do this, you'll go through Tools, just like you did to get to the options menu before, but this time you'll want to select Pop-up blocker -> Pop-up blocker settings as shown below.  That will get you a dialog window much like the one where you added *.letu.edu to trusted sites.  Do the same thing here: Add *.letu.edu to the allowed web sites list for the pop-up blocker.

How should I configure my browser to work best with MyLETU and its associated web pages? http://www.letu.edu/it/faq/article/AA-00118 Configuring your browser to work best with MyLETU

There are a few settings you'll want to make in your web browser to ensure that you don't end up having problems getting MyLETU and associated web sites to display and work properly.  In general, these things are: Disable pop-up blockers, enable Javascript, and enable cookies. The specifics of how these settings are made vary, depending on what web browser you use, so we've broken them into separate articles for each one.

If you're not sure what browser you use, or if you know the browser but not what version it is, look to your pull-down menus at the top-left. You might need to tap the Alt key to make it appear if you are using IE.  Pull down the Help menu and look for an entry that will say About Mozilla Firefox or About Internet Explorer or About <whatever browser you are using>.  Click that, and you'll be able to view version information about your browser.  See the screenshot below for an example of this.

Currently, recommended browsers are Internet Explorer and Firefox.  If you are using one of these, select below to see a specific information about how to configure your browser's security settings for MyLETU.

Select your browser:

 Internet Explorer
Firefox

Problems logging in to MyLETU Courses specifically http://www.letu.edu/it/faq/article/AA-00117 If you're having problems logging on to MyLETU Courses

It's worth noting that normally, the way you'll want to get to MyLETU Courses is to go to the main MyLETU home page (http://my.letu.edu). After logging in there, you can get to MyLETU Courses directly from the Students tab without needing to log in there separately - the MyLETU homepage passes your login credentials through to the Courses system, so one click and you're right in there.  If you're running into problems getting into MyLETU via some other method, try going to the MyLETU home page first and see if you can get in that way.

So, that being the case, it's quite possible you may never run into any of these error messages. However, if you are having problems logging into MyLETU Courses specifically, it will give a specific error message, in red text, on the login screen.  Here are a couple of examples:

This error message is the system saying, "An account with that name exists, but that password is not right.
This error message means that no account exists with the user name you entered.

Here is a rundown of the different error messages you might see, and what they mean:

1) An error occurred while the system was processing this login request.

This error indicates a problem with the user name you have entered. It could mean you are mis-typing it, or that you do not have a MyLETU Courses account. Your user name for MyLETU Courses is going to be the same one that you use to log in at at the MyLETU home page - your LetNet user name. If you are not sure what that is, you might with to refer to this article, which gives basic information about your LetNet account.

2) Could not login. Valid authentication credentials were not provided.

This error occurs when a valid user name was entered, meaning that you do have an account, but an incorrect password was entered.  The difference between this error and the next one mentioned is the word "Valid."  This error indicates that you did provide credentials, but that they were not valid - in other words, you entered a password that was not correct.

3) No authentication credentials were provided with the request.

This error usually occurs when JavaScript has been disabled within your browser's security settings. If you are getting this error message, the first thing you want to do is check your browser to make sure that Java/Javascript functionality is not disabled.  This article contains the specific steps on how you can do that with Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers, as well as enable cookies, which is also recommended.

4) An error occurred in the authentication module. Error occurred while trying to lookup the current session in the database.

This error usually occurs when cookies are being blocked in the user's browser. This article will show you how to make sure that the necessary security settings in your browser are setting, including enabling cookies and Javascript for the MyLETU Courses page.

5) Access denied - your access to the system has been disabled.

This error indicates that your MyLETU Courses account has been administratively deactivated. Please contact your student services representative for the academic program in which you are enrolled (PACT, BBA, MBA, TEACH, et cetera) to correct this issue.

If you don't find what you need here and continue to encounter problems logging in, contact the help desk - we'll be glad to help you out.  You can find contact information and hours for the help desk here.

I lost or forgot my LetNet password! How can I recover or reset it? http://www.letu.edu/it/faq/article/AA-00110 What to do if you lose or forget your LetNet password

For faculty and staff
If you are faculty or staff, contact the help desk and we can assist you in getting your password reset. You'll want to have your employee ID number handy.

For students and prospective students
If you lose or forget your LetNet password, fortunately, it is easy to reset.  You'll want to start by opening up your web browser and going to the MyLETU home page (http://my.letu.edu).  On this page, as long as you're not logged in already (if you are logged in, you can use the normal password change procedure), there will be a tab that says Forget your password?  Here's a picture of the page with this tab circled in red:

Click that tab and you'll be prompted to enter your LetNet user name in a blank there, then click the Submit button.  This will cause an email to be sent out to the home email address that the university has on file for you.  This will be some email address that is not your LeTourneau email address - since if you don't have your password you can't get to your LeTourneau mail.  So next, check your email at that account and in it you will find a link that will provide you with a temporary password.  That temporary password will contain one capital letter and it's important to note which one it is.  From there, you can go back to the MyLETU home page and use your temporary password to log in.  Once you are logged in, you can change your password to something easier to remember using the password change procedure which is described here.

If you encounter problems with this process or are unable to get it to work, please do not hesitate to contact us at the help desk.  You can find contact information for the help desk here.

How can I change my password? http://www.letu.edu/it/faq/article/AA-00109 Changing your LETU password

Regardless of whether you are a student, faculty or staff, or prospective student, you can change your password in one easy place.  To do this, the first thing you'll want to do is log in to the MyLETU homepage at http://my.letu.edu.

(If you do not know or have forgotten your LetNet password, please have a look at our article on resetting your password.)

The MyLETU home page

Here's what the MyLETU home page looks like, with the log in boxes circled in red, at the upper-right:

The System/Feedback tab

Once you've logged into the MyLETU page with your LetNet account, you'll see that there is a tab labelled System/Feedback.  Clicking on that tab will take you to a page where you'll be able to change your password, as shown here:

A valid LetNet password

When choosing a new password, you'll have to select one that meets the password complexity requirements listed both on the page and below.

  • Must be a minimum of seven characters long
  • Cannot contain your name or any part of it
  • Must have at least three of the following character types:
    • A capital letter (A, B, C, etc)
    • A lower-case letter (a, b, c, etc)
    • A number (1, 2, 3, etc)
    • A symbol (!, @, #, etc)

The following paragraph applies only to:
Students, faculty and staff who are physically at one of LeTourneau's campuses.

If you are physically at a LeTourneau University campus and can log in to a university computer, such as a lab computer, or office computer if you are faculty/staff, there is another way you can change your password.  Press Ctrl-Alt-Del on your computer's keyboard, then click the box that says Change Password.  You'll be prompted to type in first your old (or current, in other words) password, as well as the password you want to change it to two times.  The previously mentioned restrictions on password complexity still apply.

What basic information should I know about my LetNet account? http://www.letu.edu/it/faq/article/AA-00105 Basic information about your LetNet account

When is my LetNet account created if I am a student?
If you are an adult student in an SGPS degree program, your account is created when you are accepted to the program. You will gain access to your email account and the rest of the system at that time.

If you are a traditional (on-campus) student when you first register for classes, a process begins that will lead to your MyLETU web site account being upgraded to a full LetNet account. Generally this will take place within 24 hours of your being registered for a class, but at times it might take a little longer. So, what changes when this happens?  For one thing, an @letu.edu email address is created for you, and you'll gain access to that and the LetNet Webmail system.  You also may gain access to the MyLETU Courses system, depending on what class or program you are enrolling in.  On the MyLETU web page, you'll have a Students tab as well, which will display information specific to current students.  You'll also gain access to the student web services page, accessible from the Students tab on the MyLETU web page. The screenshot below shows the Students tab; click on the thumbnail to see a larger version of it.

When is my LetNet account created if I am a faculty or staff?
When you are hired by the university, your supervisor will send notification of your hire to Human Resources, which will initiate a process to have your account created and all of your permissions set up.  Normally this is completed before your first day working, but in some cases if you start work immediately after being hired or the associated paperwork is late in getting to Human Resources, there can be a slight delay.

How long do I keep my LetNet account?
If you stop attending classes or working for the university, unless you are a PACT student still working on your certification, your account will go inactive the next time the automated maintenance routine runs. It runs approximately once per month. So, it's a good idea if you'll be leaving to make sure you back up anything you need from your account in advance, since it's theoretically possible that the account maintenance process could run the very day after you leave and you'd not have any time afterward to back that content up. If you are a graduating senior, the university can forward emails to your LeTourneau account for a period of 90 days after your graduation.  If you are a graduating senior and would like to have your mails forwarded, we just need you to let us know (via telephone or support@letu.edu) and provide three pieces of information: Your name, your student ID number, and the email address you'd like us to forward to.

What will my LetNet user name be?
Your LetNet user name will normally be your first name and last name together, with no space between them.  For example, John Smith's user name would probably be JohnSmith.  Or, because the user name is not case-sensitive, johnsmith would also be okay.

What about my LetNet password?
Your LetNet password will be the same password you used when originally creating an account on the web site if you applied and started the enrollment process through the web site.  If you are a new employee, you can pick up your user name and password on the accounts page, at http://www.letu.edu/accounts

How can I check my LETU email? http://www.letu.edu/it/faq/article/AA-00101 Checking your LETU email

There are a few different ways to go about checking your LETU email. Below is a description of the the most direct and fastest way to do this, followed by a description of an alternate method.

Log in to the LetNet Webmail system directly

In your web browser, go to https://mail.letu.edu, and log in using your LetNet account.  You'll then be presented with the LetNet Webmail interface, pictured below.

Log in to the MyLETU homepage and check your email from there

Another potential way to get to your email is just to go to the MyLETU homepage at http://my.letu.edu and hit the email link from there.  This page is pictured below. The login boxes are circled in red at the upper-right.  You'll want to log in here using your LetNet account.

Email links on the MyLETU home page

Once you're logged in, scroll down in the page a bit and you'll find links to your email and antispam settings, as pictured here. The red-circled link is the one that will take you right to your email; the yellow one will take you to your antispam settings.
