In compliance with the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), employees who have been employed for at least 12 cumulative months (which may involve one or more periods of employment) and who have worked at least 1,250 hours during the 12-month period immediately preceding the commencement of leave are eligible for family or medical leave. Paid time off does not contribute to this total. All exempt and regular full-time hourly employees will be granted leave with pay for jury or other legal duty only when subpoenaed for such service. A copy of the official orders must be submitted to the immediate supervisor to whom the employee is responsible. Faculty members must make arrangements for the teaching of their classes, and staff members must report daily to work before and after jury duty when time permits. Staff members must also obtain confirmation from court of actual jury attendance and submit it attached to their timecards/exempt cards to receive jury duty pay. Payment will not exceed 8 hours per day.
Compensation received for jury duty in excess of 30 days must be submitted to the cashier since the employee is already receiving full pay from the University.
Faculty are allowed short-term sick leave, as approved by the school dean, Provost, and President when a replacement is not required to cover teaching responsibilities or a short-term replacement is agreed on.
Full-time, exempt and hourly paid staff accumulate sick leave at the rate of on-half day per month for the first year of service and one day per month after the first year, up to a maximum of 60 days (480 hours). Accrued sick leave may be used when the employee is ill or injured, or for absences caused by illness or injury in the immediate family.

Full-time eleven or twelve-month staff accrue discretionary vacation benefits each pay period beginning with the first paycheck, to a maximum of one and one-half times the total annual discretionary vacation allowance. The rate at which vacation time is accrued varies depending on the employee's years of cumulative full-time service. Unused days beyond an employee's maximum will be forfeited without pay.
Full-time faculty are expected to serve and be available for the full term of their contract. Holidays are observed in accordance with the academic calendar. Vacations or other off time during the period of service will be clearly spelled out in the contract.
