Traditional Students China Studies (CHIN) Off-Campus Semester and Summer Programs CHIN 1013 Conversational Chinese A basic course introducing students to the Chinese language. Both oral and written exercises form an integral part of the classroom program. The emphasis is on the spoken form of Mandarin. This CHIN course is only offered through the China Studies Program of the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities. Class 3. CHIN 3013 Survey Of Chinese Geography, Culture, And History A course designed to provide an overview of China's geography, culture, and history. The history of China from its earliest beginnings up to the present will be covered. Students become familiar with the major dynasties of China and their characteristics. Topics include Chinese philosophy, classics, history and geography. On study tours, students visit many of the most famous Chinese sites of history and give presentations about that site or a related historical event. This CHIN course is only offered through the China Studies Program of the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities. Class 3. CHIN 3023 Contemporary Society And Public Policy The course focuses on Chinese society and culture from 1919. Among the areas studied will be religion, education, political systems, social policies, and music and art. CHIN 3213 Intercultural Communication Introduces the fundamentals of cross-cultural communication, particularly between Chinese and Americans. This CHIN course is only offered through the China Studies Program of the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities. Class 3. CHIN 3223 Modernization And Economic Development A survey of current issues affecting China domestically and internationally. Economic policies, development issues, and industrial development will be covered. CHIN 4111 Local Art And Customs A student will have the opportunity to focus on an elective area such as physical education, music, calligraphy, and art for more in-depth study. This CHIN course is only offered through the China Studies Program of the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities. Class 1. CHIN 4211 Tai Chi A gentle and stylized form of self-defense.
