First Semester - Fall 201316 hours
BIBL 1033   Biblical Literature
This survey provides an overall perspective for understanding the Bible within its historical and cultural setting. The course will focus on the reading of significant portions of the Bible so that students may grasp the framework and themes of the Old and New Testaments as well as the relationship between the Testaments. Throughout the course students will also develop skills in interpreting and applying the Bible to contemporary situations. Class 3.
 
COSC 1303   Computer Science I
An introduction to the field of computer science. Problem solving strategies, basic data structures, and an introduction to algorithms in the context of a modern programming language. A first course in programming with an emphases on scientific and engineering applications. Class 2. Lab 1.
 
ENGL 1013   English Composition I

KINE 1512   Concepts Of Lifetime Fitness
General studies requirement under Kinesiology. The course examines various concepts of health and physical fitness with the purpose of encouraging the student to establish positive patterns of activity and healthful living. Class 2.
 
LETU 1101   Cornerstones Of Life And Learning (L)
This course introduces students to the LeTourneau University community and prepares them for the pursuit of whole person education and lifelong learning. It helps students explore and learn how to fulfill God's unique design for their lives through a holistic approach that establishes four essential cornerstones of life and learning: personal, intellectual, spiritual, and community development.       Fulfill English Proficiency Requirement
All students must demonstrate proficiency in English by passing either the English Proficiency Examination or ENGL 1001 English Review. Completion of this requirement by exam must take place before a student reaches senior status, otherwise ENGL 1001 must be taken every semester after reaching senior status until successfully completed.
 
Second Semester - Spring 201414 hours
COSC 2103   Computer Science II
A second semester study of computing principles. Abstract data types, object-oriented programming concepts, and introductory topics of graphical-user interfaces, unit testing, and file structures. Students hone their problem solving skills through a variety of programming assignments. Class 3. Prerequisite: COSC 1303 or consent of instructor.
 
EDUC 2001   Field Experience I
Students will complete a minimum of 15 field experience clock-hours in public/private schools, professional meetings, and service activities. Field experience hours will be assigned during and outside of the regularly scheduled class lecture times. Corequisite: EDUC 2101, EDUC 2201, or EDUC 2301. (Spring)
 
EDUC 2301   Introduction to American Education for 8-12 Teaching
This course is designed to serve as an introduction to the organization and structure of the elementary, middle, and high school experience, with a focus on American high schools. Emphasis will be given to teaching as a profession, expectations for new teachers, and potential job options in education. Students will also examine the requirements for becoming a certified teacher in Texas. A 10-hour field experience is required as part of the requirements for this course. Class 1. Corequisite: EDUC 2001 (Spring)
 
ENGL 1023   English Composition II
A study of argumentation/logic and writing for the professions with an emphasis on using the personal computer to plan, draft, and revise written projects. Each student is required to write a fully documented research paper and give oral presentations in class. (This course must be completed before reaching Junior standing.) Class 3. Prerequisite: Completion of ENGL 1004 with a grade of C or better or ENGL 1013..
 
HIST 2123   American History from 1865
A continuation of the survey of American life beginning with the reconstruction period and extending to the present. Political, economic, diplomatic, and military history are covered along with the contributions of minority groups. Class 3. (Spring) Both HIST 1113 Western Civilization to 1715 and HIST 1123 Western Civilization from 1715 may be substituted for both HIST 2113 and HIST 2123.
 
MATH 1203   College Algebra With Applications
A study of linear and quadratic equations, exponential and logarithmic functions, and linear inequalities with emphasis on business applications. This course may not be taken for credit by anyone who has passed MATH 1303, MATH 1603, or MATH 1903 with a grade of C or better. Class 3. Prerequisite: MATH 1123 or equivalent.
 
Third Semester - Fall 201417 hours
ACCT 2103   Principles of Financial Accounting
An introduction to the accounting process, with emphasis on identifying, recording, classifying, and interpreting transactions and other events relating to proprietorships and partnerships. Class 3.
 
COMM 1113   Introduction To Speech Communication
A study of basic oral communication principles, including verbal and nonverbal language, listening, group dynamics, and public speaking. Emphasis is upon application of these principles in the sending and receiving of different types of oral discourse. Class 3.
 
COSC 2203   Data Structures
A second-year course in data structures and algorithms. Topics include commonly used data structures, recursive algorithms, computational complexity, sorting and searching techniques, and an introduction to run-time storage management. Course assignments emphasize both program design and implementation. Class 3. Prerequisites: COSC 2103 and MATH 1803.
 
EDUC 3301   Field Experience II
Students will complete a minimum of 20 field experience clock-hours in public/private schools, professional meetings, and service activities. Field experience hours require student-provided transportation to local schools for observation and participation. Field experience hours will be assigned outside of regular lecture schedule. Assignments in this course focus on the historical, philosophical, sociological, and contemporary issues. Corequisites: EDUC 3343. (Fall)
 
EDUC 3343   Foundations of American Education and Culture
Students have opportunities to develop an understanding of the historical, philosophical and sociological foundations of U.S. public and private education, and their influences on current issues and the future of education. Upon completion, students should be able to contribute an informed voice in the democratic process affecting the quality of education and the teaching profession. A significant aim of this survey course is to help students develop an understanding of the vital relationships teachers have between school and society. Class 3. Corequisite: EDUC 3301
 
KINE     Physical Activities
Offerings include: aerobics, archery, action games, badminton, basketball, bowling, fitness, flag football, golf, racquetball, scuba diving, soccer, swimming, tennis, volleyball, weight training, etc. (Half of semester.) Class 1.
 
MGMT 2303   Principles Of Management
An introductory survey to the fundamental principles of management and the functions of planning, organizing, and controlling. The course provides the student with a basis for thinking about complex business operations as they relate to the management process. Class 3.
 
Fourth Semester - Spring 201518 hours
ACCT 2113   Principles of Managerial Accounting
A continuation of ACCT 2103, examining accounting procedures for corporations, financial statement analysis, and managerial uses of accounting data. Class 3. Prerequisite: ACCT 2103.
 
BIBL 1043   Biblical Foundations For Living (L)
An introductory course highlighting the relationship between Biblical teaching and contemporary Christian living. This initial experience in the integration of faith and learning focuses on principles of Biblical interpretation and application. Students learn how to interpret core Biblical passages so as to give guidance for some of the tough issues Christians face today. Class 3.
 
COSC 3023   Information Systems
An overview of the five components of modern computerized information systems: hardware, software, procedures, people, and data. A study of existing systems and the strategic roles they play in business. An introduction to business data processing using modern applications and programming languages. Class 3. Prerequisite: COSC 2203. (Spring, Odd years)
 
COSC 3403   Software Engineering I
The application of object-oriented analysis and design methods to develop commercial software. Emphasis is placed on software process maturity, software development life cycles, software documentation, and team projects. Class 3. Prerequisite: COSC 2203. (Spring)
 
MATH 1503   Calculus With Business Applications
A study of differential calculus and its application to business. This course may not be taken for credit by anyone who has passed MATH 1603 or MATH 1903 with a grade of C or better. Class 3. Prerequisite: MATH 1203. (Spring)
 
MGMT 3203   Human Resource Management
A study of business manpower strategies, human needs, position requirements, interviewing techniques, technical and human relations, motivation theories, training and wage administration involved in maintaining the work force. Class 3. Prerequisite: MGMT 2303. (Spring)
 
Fifth Semester - Fall 201518 hours
COSC 3603   Networks And Data Communications
An introduction to the principles and concepts of network-based communication between software processes. This includes the organization of WANs and LANs, the function of gateways and routers, and the use of protocols at the application, transport and network layers. Emphasis is placed on the TCP/IP protocol suite. Exercises focus on studying network traffic and developing TCP- and UDP-based client/server programs. Class 3. Prerequisite or Corequisite: COSC 2203 (Fall)
 
ECON 2103   Macroeconomics
An introduction to the nature and theory of Economics and the theoretical tools of macroeconomics. The course includes the introduction of supply and demand, examination of national income accounting, the role of government to include fiscal and monetary policy, the American banking system, and international trade. This course is designed to review the TExES competencies for the 8th-12th certification areas in one or more secondary content areas and professional development. Satisfactory / Unsatisfactory Grade. Class 1.

FINC 3113   Financial Management
A study of financial strategy in the processes of obtaining and managing funds of the corporation. Included are cash flow and working capital management, capital financing models, dividend and stock policy, and the examination of expansions and mergers. Class 3. Prerequisite: ACCT 2103.
 
HIST 2113   American History to 1865
A general survey of the establishment and growth of the American nation from the colonial period to the end of the Civil War. Covers the social, political, economic, and cultural life of the new nation, giving particular stress to the reasons behind the near dissolution of the Union. Class 3. (Fall) Both HIST 1113 Western Civilization to 1715 and HIST 1123 Western Civilization from 1715 may be substituted for both HIST 2113 and HIST 2123.
 
INTC 3002   Applications Of Technology
A course designed to aid prospective teachers in becoming better acquainted with the broad range and interrelated uses of instructional media materials and techniques. Emphasis is on the practical problem of choosing, using, and inventing instructional materials. Proficiency in equipment operation is required. Class 2.

COSC 4153   Programming Languages
A survey of language classes, such as imperative, functional, logic, concurrent and object- oriented paradigms, as well as their run-time structures. The student will gain experience writing programs in a variety of languages and develop an appreciation of the strengths and weaknesses of each language. Includes historical precedents and current trends in design and philosophy of languages. Formal approaches to defining the syntax and semantics are used to describe the fundamental concepts underlying programming languages. Class 3. Prerequisite: COSC 2103. (Spring)
 
EDUC 3323   Planning And Assessment
The emphasis of the course is lesson planning, curriculum organization, and assessment that is appropriate for today’s diverse school classroom. The course provides practical experience in writing behavioral objectives, using various formats of lesson plans, planning units of instruction, and planning assessment. The goal is to help pre-service teachers use assessment to drive instruction. Class 3. Corequisite: EDUC 3401.
 
EDUC 3401   Field Experience III
Students will complete a minimum of 20 field experience clock-hours in public/private schools, professional meetings, and service activities. Field experience hours require student-provided transportation to local schools for observation and participation. Field experience hours will be assigned outside of regular lecture schedule. Assignments in this course will focus on analyzing effective classrooms, implementing Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), creating Lesson plans, evaluating lesson designs, and critiquing various assessment practices. Corequisites: EDUC 3323.
 
MKTG 2503   Principles Of Marketing
Foundational course in the study of business where the emphasis is on studying the marketing concept of discovering and satisfying needs for products (goods, services, and intellectual property). The marketing functions/marketing mix of product, price, promotion and place (distribution) are studied along with creating customer value within the marketing environmental forces, constraints of the organizational resources, and a relationship marketing dynamic. The development of a marketing plan for a real product brings all this study to a practical understanding and application, preparing the student for the real world experience. Class 3.

EDUC 4333   Secondary Instructional Methods
Students will focus on effective lesson planning, engaging instructional strategies, and the use of technology as part of the instructional process. Emphasis is given to self-directed learning and collaboration, methods for encouraging independent critical thinkers and problem solvers as well as selection and evaluation of textbooks and other instructional materials. Students prepare and teach a variety of lessons in the university classroom and their corequisite field experience IV placement in public and/or private schools. Class 3. Corequisite: EDCU 4401. (Fall)
 
EDUC 4401   Field Experience IV
Students will complete a minimum of 30 field experience clock-hours in public/private schools. Field experience hours require student-provided transportation to local schools for observation and participation. Assignments in this course focus on researching and implementing effective models of instruction. In addition to lesson planning, modeling of instructional strategies and observation, students familiarize themselves with their mentor teacher/s’ routines and procedures for preparation of their student teaching experience. A university supervisor will observe a minimum of one lesson taught by the student in the assigned field experience classroom. Corequisite: EDUC 4333 or READ 4103. (Fall)
 
POLS 2103   Federal, State, And Local Government
The structure and operation of American government on the national, state, and local levels stressing an understanding of legislative and administrative procedure. Special attention is given to Texas government policy and processes. This course may not be taken for credit by anyone who has passed POLS 2503 or POLS 2603. This course is recommended for teacher education majors. Class 3. Prerequisite: Sophomore or higher standing.
 
PSYC 2143   Human Growth And Development
This course involves the study of biopsychosocial and spiritual aspects of development from birth to death. Through the examination of various theories and research, this course will allow students to experience a greater understanding of physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development through the lifespan. EDUC 4323   Ethical and Legal Topics in Education
Provides teacher education majors with a current overview of legal and ethical issues in public and private schools. Topics may include: legal and ethical rights; responsibilities of teachers and students; legal cases that have impacted our educational system; terms and conditions of employment; religious freedoms; liability; student discipline; due process rights; gender issues; censorship. Class 3. Corequisite: EDUC 4186, EDUC 4286, or EDUC 4386 Students may substitute MEDU5163 Public School Law. EDUC 4343   Classroom Management And Organization For The Middle & Secondary School (L)
Students focus on structuring and managing the learning environment, understanding how motivation affects group and individual behavior, developing a supportive and responsive classroom community, fostering supportive school-home relationships, applying reinforcement theory, maintaining a supportive environment, and providing feedback on student progress during instruction. This course is taken as part of the student teaching block. Class 3. (Spring)
 
EDUC 4386   Student Teaching In The High School
Students apply principles of planning, instruction, evaluation, management, and discipline; selecting appropriate teaching and learning strategies; developing a variety of appropriate lesson plans and assessments; demonstrating effective teaching practices with diverse populations; using effective discipline management techniques; managing students and classrooms; promoting personal professional growth; and working cooperatively with other professionals in grades 8-12. A total of 6 credit hours is required. A weekly afternoon seminar is required. Student teaching 12 weeks. Class 3,6. 6 total hours needed.
 
READ 4313   Reading And Study Skills In The Content Areas
Students learn methods of helping learners to improve reading and study strategies in the content areas. Course topics include pre-reading strategies, vocabulary development, study skills, and reading and writing across the curriculum. This course is taken as a part of the student teaching block. Class 3. (Spring) Students may substitute MEDU 5373 Effective Methods Language Arts & Social Studies.
