MEGR 3323   Mechanics Of Materials
Stress and strain, properties of materials, axially-loaded members, stresses and deformations of beams, torsion, combined loading and principal stresses, elastic curves, superposition, design of beams and connections, continuous beams, and columns. Class 3. Prerequisites: COSC 1303 and MEGR 2013. (Spring)

MEGR 3413   Mechanisms And Kinematics
Graphical and analytical solutions for velocity and acceleration of mechanisms, synthesis of mechanisms, dynamic analysis of mechanisms and design of cams, gears, and gear trains. Class 3. Prerequisites: COSC 1303, MATH 2023, and MEGR 2023. (Spring)

MEGR 3513   Fluid Mechanics
Fluid statics and dynamics, flow of an ideal fluid, boundary layer, flow of real fluids through pipes and ducts, flow around immersed bodies, and analysis and design of hydraulic systems. Class 3. Prerequisites: COSC 1303, MATH 2023, and MEGR 2023. (Fall)

MEGR 3713   Thermodynamics
Properties of pure substances, heat and work, first and second laws of thermodynamics, entropy, ideal gases, gas-vapor mixtures, and availability. Class 3. Prerequisites: CHEM 1113, COSC 1303, and MEGR 2013. Corequisite: MEGR 2023

MEGR 4122   Mechanical Engineering Design Laboratory
Lecture topics in experimental stress and vibration analysis, electrical machines and data acquisition. Laboratory experiments in the use of strain gauges, photoelasticity, data acquisition systems, shock and vibration measurement, and evaluation of materials properties. Formal report writing is emphasized. Class 1. Lab 3. Prerequisites: ENGR 2122 and MEGR 4813. (Spring)

MEGR 4423   Mechanical Vibrations
Vibration of single degree of freedom systems, natural and forced motions, and dynamic loading; multiple degree of freedom systems and approximate methods; vibration of elastic bodies. Applications include packaging, fatigue, critical speed determination, and vibration suppression. Class 3. Prerequisites: MATH 2203, MEGR 2023, and MEGR 3323. (Fall)

MEGR 4443   Machine Design
Application of the principles of statics and mechanics of materials to the design of machine elements. Topics include stress and deformation, finite element method, failure criteria in yielding, fatigue and buckling, statistical considerations, and selection of shafts, bearings, and gears. Class 3. Prerequisites: ENGR 1812 and MEGR 3323. (Fall)

MEGR 4513   Gas Dynamics And Propulsion
Gas dynamics with applications to inlets, axial compressors, nozzles, and the preliminary design of a gas turbine power plant. This design project is presented in a formal engineering report. Class 3. Prerequisites: MEGR 3513 and MEGR 3713. (Fall)

MEGR 4713   Applied Thermodynamics
A continuation of Thermodynamics including power and refrigeration cycles, thermodynamic relations, combustion processes, and fuel characteristics. Applications involving studies of compressors, turbines, heat engines, and refrigeration systems. Class 3. Prerequisite: MEGR 3713. (Spring)

MEGR 4723   Heat Transfer
Principles of conduction, convection, and radiation heat transfer, transient heat flow, condensation and boiling, and heat exchangers. Class 3. Prerequisites: MATH 2203 and MEGR 3513. Corequisite: MEGR 3713 (Spring)

MEGR 4813   Mechanical Engineering Design I
Applications of design principles to a mechanical engineering project. The conceptual and preliminary designs of the project solutions are performed, and the design is completed in MEGR 4823. Examples of projects are industrial design projects and intercollegiate competition projects. The final grade is set after the completion of MEGR 4823. Class 2. Lab 3. Prerequisites: COSC 1303, ENGR 1812, MEGR 3413, MEGR 3513, and MEGR 4723. Corequisite: MEGR 4443 (Fall)

MEGR 4823   Mechanical Engineering Design II
Completion of the final design, fabrication, testing, and reporting of the designs initiated in MEGR 4813. Class 2. Lab 3. Prerequisites: MEGR 4813 and MEGR 4443. (Spring)

MEGR 4941-4993   Special Topics
Individual or group research, development, or design. Special permission only. Class 1-3.
