Engineering represents excellence at LeTourneau, and the inventive and entrepreneurial spirit of our founder, the late R.G. LeTourneau, continues today as our students experience the excitement and challenges of studying and experiencing modern engineering practice. The engineering program continues to emphasize the strong technical tradition, built upon Christian values, that has been a hallmark of LeTourneau University since its founding.

LeTourneau University's engineering graduates are successful professionals, consistently reflecting our fine reputation and quality program. We were the first evangelical Christian university in the country to offer an engineering program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. We maintain a leading edge in this field, utilizing theory, laboratory and design project experiences, and the latest technologies to provide students with a strong background in mathematics, the physical and engineering sciences, and engineering design--all within a Christian liberal arts framework.

The Engineering and Engineering Technology Advisory Committee is made up of practicing engineers representing industry and agencies related to engineering. The committee meets twice a year to review the Engineering and Engineering Technology Programs of the University to provide guidance in keeping the programs relevant to the needs of industry and engineering practice in general. The members study facilities and equipment needs, provide valuable input on the curriculum, and interact with faculty members and administrators. They come from all parts of the country and are a valuable part of LeTourneau University's School of Engineering and Engineering Technology. The members are:

The Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering is an integrated general engineering program with concentrations in Biomedical, Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, and Materials Joining. The program is basic preparation for registration as a Professional Engineer and provides the educational background for professional employment or for graduate study. A unique blend of mathematics, sciences, and engineering topics, together with communications, humanities, social sciences, and Biblical studies will prepare you for professional engineering positions in industry, government, consulting, and service organizations. Graduates from this program hold professional positions in research, development, design, production, applications engineering, and management in many industries including aerospace, automotive, aviation, robotics and manufacturing, electronics, microelectronics and computers, telecommunications, welding and materials joining, and information systems.

The engineering program at LeTourneau University provides professional education, which combines a sound theoretical knowledge, coupled with applications in the solution of practical engineering problems. You will learn how engineers use their knowledge of mathematics and natural sciences, gained by study, experience, and practice, to utilize the materials and forces of nature economically for the benefit of mankind. In addition, the majority of engineering courses involve engineering design projects, teaching you to be creative.

The objectives of the engineering program are that graduates will:

  • Effectively complete engineering designs and other applications employing both theoretical and practical knowledge.
  • Be characterized by their interdisciplinary engineering strengths.
  • Exhibit effective teamwork and communication skills in the work place.
  • Be characterized by a high level of technical leadership skills.
  • Adapt to changing industry and technology advancements and also be committed to continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrate ethical behavior with a sense of Christian purpose in the workplace.
  • Be successfully employed as engineers or accepted into graduate programs.


The program is designed to be completed in a four year period if you have completed four units of high school English, two units of algebra, one unit of geometry, one half unit of trigonometry, and one unit of science (chemistry or physics). Both physics and chemistry are desired. Students who transfer from another college or university should understand that there are sequences of courses in the curriculum, up to six semesters in length, which build on one another.

Communications skills are required and are emphasized in all engineering courses. Written material presented for credit is graded for the correct use of English, form, and content. Oral presentations are expected in laboratories and classes, and they are evaluated on both content and presentation. Reading skills in both technical and non-technical areas, as well as proficiency in listening and evaluating, are also emphasized.

To remain in the engineering program, a student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.10 for all engineering courses taken at LeTourneau after 12 credits in engineering courses are completed at LeTourneau.
