Traditional Students Spanish (SPAN) Department of English LASP 1113 Elementary Spanish I Pronunciation, fundamentals of grammar and syntax, vocabulary building, readings, and conversation in the Spanish language. Class 3. (Fall) LASP 1123 Elementary Spanish II A continuation of SPAN 1113. Class 3. Prerequisite: SPAN 1113. (Spring) LASP 2113 Intermediate Spanish I Grammar review, intensive reading and conversation, and composition. Class 3. Prerequisite: SPAN 1123. (Fall) LASP 2123 Intermediate Spanish II A continuation of SPAN 2113. Class 3. Prerequisite: SPAN 2113. (Spring) LASP 3016 Spanish Language A student will be exposed in a concentrated way to advanced grammar and idiomatic phrases. Extensive reading of literature will be required. This SPAN course is only offered through the Latin American Studies Program of the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities. Class 6. Prerequisite: SPAN 2123 or its equivalent. LASP 3903 Latin American History, Contemporary Issues and Perspectives The seminar will focus on the social, historical, political, economic and religious currents that constitute Latin America society and culture. This SPAN course is only offered through the Latin American Studies Program of the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities. Class 3. LASP 4913 Faith And Practice Seminar The seminar will focus on religious issues in Latin America. This SPAN course is only offered through the Latin American Studies Program of the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities. Class 3. LASP 4923 Literature And Language Seminar A student will study works of modern literature in Spanish. This SPAN course is only offered through the Latin American Studies Program of the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities. Class 3. Prerequisite: SPAN 2123 or its equivalent. LASP 4931-4934 Service Practicum A student will be expected to undertake a work or research project within the context of the local culture. Regional travel may also be involved in order to gain a better understanding of Latin American culture. This SPAN course is only offered through the Latin American Studies Program of the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities. Class 1-4. LASP 4981-4983 Special Topics A one-to-three credit hour course to be utilized for seminars, special lectures, and independent study in topics that are not offered on a regular basis.
