Youth Orchestra

LeTourneau University Youth Orchestra
Tuesdays 6:30-8:30 PM Speer Chapel
Director: Mrs. Shannon Roberts

The LETU Youth Orchestra is comprised of talented youth from the greater Longview area, as well as students enrolled at LeTourneau University.  Entrance is by audition.  Rehearsals are held on Tuesday nights from 6:30-8:30 PM in the Speer Chapel on the LeTourneau University campus.

LETUYO is currently offering membership to players of string instruments only: violin, viola, cello, and double bass; as the orchestra grows it will expand to include woodwinds, brass, and percussion.

Tuition per semester is $75, payable to LeTourneau University.  Beginning in the fall of 2018 the orchestra may be taken for dual credit by juniors and seniors in high school, and taken for one hour of credit by LETU students, with fees according to the appropriate LETU registration.

To schedule an audition or for more information, please contact Mrs. Roberts at shannonroberts@letu.edu, or Dr. Jim Taylor, LETU Director of Fine Arts, at jimtaylor@letu.edu.

Longview native Shannon (Brady) Roberts earned her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Texas in Denton under the tutelage of Dr. Igor Borodin and baton of Anshel Brusilow. During her studies she was a member of the UNT Symphony Orchestra, both Jazz Strings and Mariachi ensembles, and sat concert mistress of the Repertoire String Orchestra. Upon returning to East Texas, she conducted orchestras for Kilgore ISD where she met her now husband Tristan Roberts, a fellow orchestra director and violinist, with whom she has been blessed with six beautiful children. Mrs. Roberts performs with both the Longview and Marshall Symphony Orchestras and can be seen performing throughout East Texas as a freelance musician. She carries a small studio of private violin students and works as a private contractor for school and youth orchestras throughout the region. Mrs. Roberts composes and arranges educational music for orchestras. Her arrangements have been performed in Kilgore, Longview, Nacogdoches, and Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Mrs. Roberts is passionate about teaching young musicians, and she looks forward to working with the students of Letourneau University. She has great love for the Lord and seeks His blessing over her endeavors as a musician, teacher, mother and wife.
