Michael is licensed to practice law in the state of Michigan, the District of Columbia, and before the U.S. Supreme Court. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan and received his law degree from Michigan State Law.

In addition to LeTourneau University, Michael is an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Thomas M. Cooley School of Law and General Counsel for the International Bancard Corporation. Prior to his current position, Mike served as a Senior Attorney with a private law firm in Birmingham, Michigan.

Throughout his professional career, Michael has distinguished himself as an ardent advocate for public service, having had a long and illustrious career in the Michigan State legislature.

Michael was originally elected in 1998 to the Michigan House of Representatives, and following his 2006 re-election to the Senate, Michael was chosen by his peers to serve as the Senate Majority Leader, the chamber’s highest and most influential leadership position.

As Senate Majority Leader, he supervised and managed the senate staff and internal budgeting. Michael’s primary responsibility, however, was to serve as the lead negotiator on all public policy matters, including the negotiating and directing of legislative procedure for the final passage of the state’s $46 billion budget.
